Still managing to hold my weight steady with the odd fluctuation of 2 or 3 pounds here and there but generally 57 kg, 9 stone in old money.
Trying hard to keep the sugar levels steady too. Next check up in December, so will be able to tell then if I am controlling my diabetes without having to count carbs all the time, as I haven't been doing this since April.

Just had my check up with the Diabetes Specialist Nurse and am so pleased to say that my diet and fitness regime has paid off.
I will never be clear of diabetes now I have been diagnosed and will be monitored for the rest of my life, but at this moment in time my sugar levels are "normal with no further action needed"
What this means is I stay with my lifestyle. There have been no dramatic diets, I have simply brought my nutritional levels to slightly under what is the norm, mainly by taking smaller portions or by swapping something like wholemeal bread (which is as bad for a diabetic as white) for Linseed and soya. That is to say my GDA is Kcal 1500-1700, Protein 45g, carbs 230g (I have always kept them just below 200g) Sugar below 90g, Fat below 70g, Sat Fat below 20g, Fibre 24g minimum. I have kept my diet balanced, fairly easy for me as I have a very good working knowledge of nutrition. I have read on this site of many people totally cutting out one thing or another, This may result in a quick fix, but really you are storing up trouble for later years. Your body needs a certain amount of everything in order for it to work properly, some nutrients cannot be activated without some of the ingredients found in say fat. It is better to swap bad things for something not so bad. Nuts are high in fat , but not sat fat which are the baddies, so are a better snack option than crisps or biscuits. Fruit is a good choice...high in sugar yes, but it is a slow release sugar so is not bad like candy. Eggs are high in cholesterol, but are also a good source of iron and protein. These are the sorts of considerations that should be explored when choosing a well balanced diet. And of course exercise has to be high on the list of priorities. If I have not made my 6000 steps a day (thank you fitbit) I now go out for a brisk walk in the evening, or 30 minutes on the treadmill soon racks up 3000 steps, so it's not that hard to achieve.
I feel I have proved that you can turn diabetes around (even if you are on meds) within 6 months of being diagnosed. Not once have I felt hungry, or bored with my food. But I have had to work at it and shall continue to, and I have to say Fatsecret has been an absolute godsend in monitoring my nutrient intake and support from its members has been a boost. I shall continue with this site, thank you everyone and good luck with your own targets and goals.....it can be done!
