02 January 2016

First post holiday weigh-in and I haven't gained anything. Yay! I wish I'd lost weight of course, but I haven't worked out in a week and I've been eating quite a bit of gluten and candy, so I'll take holding steady.

My brother's wedding is in a month and a half, and I need to get my body more toned. I'm a bridesmaid and although I can fit into my dress (designer size 4, woohoo!) I'm not comfortable with my arms being exposed yet. I go back to work in the office on Monday, so hopefully I can get back in the groove of things.

Breakfast:
• bowl of Cheerios
• almond/cashew milk
• black tea + honey

Lunch:
• Lean Cuisine (enchilada + rice + corn)
• dollop of sour cream

Snack:
• herbal tea
• small linzer cookie

Dinner:
• romaine salad (lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, chicken breast)
• light ranch dressing
• chicken noodle soup (1 cup)

I hope everyone had a happy holiday. Ours was low-key and very nice. I baked my traditional French toast casserole, which consists of croissants, blueberries and raspberries soaked in eggs, heavy cream, vanilla and bourbon, then baked in the oven and drizzled with maple syrup which my MIL brought from Quebec. I had a mimosa, 2 large helpings of French toast, and 3 slices of bacon, thank you very much.

We had a turkey to stuff, potatoes to mash and cranberry sauce to make from scratch but, in the end, my new robe and my mother-in-law's new heated blanket were too strong a match for our desire to get up and cook, and so we didn't move off the couch the entire day. We just wallowed in our coziness in front of the TV (an SNL Christmas marathon was on) and had leftover Chinese takeout for dinner.

We decided we'll demonstrate more willpower today and actually cook that Christmas dinner.

Exercise:
• 30 minutes on the elliptical (alternated between resistance 2 & 4) / 250 calories burned
• 4 minutes of arm exercises (8 lb weights - a new Christmas gift!)

Breakfast:
• Greek yogurt
• 1/4 cup peanut butter granola
• 1 cup of coffee (raw sugar + creamer)

23 December 2015

This month has been crazy with work festivities and my mother-in-law being in town. I'm working from home until after the New Year since my office closes down this time of year to let people spend the holidays with their families. This is great but has posed some issues, as boredom causes me to snack/overeat, and sitting on my butt in my PJs all day makes me bored (even if I am working).

Plus, my mother-in-law doesn't understand the concept of gluten-free and everything she wants to have for dinner is full of flour. Hubby, after 3 months, still doesn't fully grasp what's gluten and what isn't. It's becoming quite frustrating to be honest. A little more support would be nice.

Exercise: 30 minutes on the elliptical (resistance 2) / 250 calories burned

• 2 bite-sized Kit Kats

Dinner:
• grilled pork chop
