Last August 2012 - I reached my top weight of 207 lbs. I was unhappy with myself and so was my husband. My "health specialists" told me the first thing I needed to do was eliminate "all things white" from my diet aka white breads, rice, pasta and especially white sugars in all forms.

It was a big challenge as I loved nothing more that a toasted slice or two of Italian bread with butter & jam. It was a bad habit and an addiction to those types of cabs.

They say it takes 3 weeks to break a bad habit. It did but I did it. I was on my way to - not the new me - but the old me. The smaller me. The real me.

I've researched many diets and they are all so restrictive in different ways. Some things make sense - some don't. But anything I read about "white carbs" and especially hidden sugars found in all processed foods makes sense to me.

Starting the day with a high protein food makes sense to me. So, I've switched from toast & jam to cottage cheese or yogurt or boiled eggs. Occasionally I'll have an avocado w/tsp of ranch (very yummy).

And eating a little more often makes sense to me. So when I leave the house - I take a healthy snack pack with me - like baby carrots, raisins, nuts - things like that. And always a bottle of water. I read that often when you feel like you're starving you are really just thirsty.

NO SODA POP and very little bottled juice (they're mostly sugar).

Anyway - long story short - I'm sticking to my own diet as it seems to be working for me AND most importantly - I do not feel deprived. I don't even feel like I'm on a diet. I'm just making better choices.

PS - I have added a water aerobics class 2-3 times a week - which helps a bunch. I think a person needs that "just for me" time in their life.
