27 October 2015

It's been raining off and on here since Sunday night. The remnants of Patricia. Just gray, gloomy days.

I had a great run yesterday morning. It was one of my shorter runs, only 4 miles. I felt so good I beat my target pace of 12:00 per mile, I ran it at 11:24 per mile.

This morning I did my upper body. I included core exercises and dropper the isolation exercises I was doing. Running is very catabolic. I know I'm not going to bulk up on my training schedule. I'm currently looking at more run specific weight lifting. I've found that the strength training is helping with my running. It's also helping with imbalances I have. If I was looking to bulk up I would be walking or doing HIIT.

I think I'm starting to have what I call 'diet fatigue'. I've been in a calorie deficit for a year and a half with few periods of going over. I'm eating a lot better and like the food I've been eating. I'm not at my goal yet and at my current rate of weight loss it may be another 6 months. It may be longer because I'm thinking of upping my calories for my half training. It's either that or going on weekly refeeds to maintain muscle glycogen. I know I'm not lean but I think the years of yo-yo dieting have taken their toll. I guess I'll sort it all out, just trying to maintain physical and mental health while doing a high training load.

I hope everyone is having a great day!

I'm off of the LCHF diet. My training was suffering and I was feeling horrible. I know it was probably just the adaptation to burning ketones but I decided it wasn't worth it.

My training for the first half of the week was pretty poor. I did the Monday and Wednesday run but they were not where I thought they should be. Also I felt pretty miserable afterwards. My leg day on Tuesday was also difficult. I was getting light headed during some of the exercises. I did not work out on Thursday due to a terrible headache. That's when I decided to change my diet back to a balanced one. I ate a lot of carbs on Thursday and was feeling better afterwards.

Friday I did my run and was feeling pretty good. I ran 5 miles at an 11:44 pace. Yesterday I went for my long run of 1 hour and 45 minutes. I ran 8.75 miles and although pretty exhausted I still felt pretty good. That's the farthest I've run in recent history. I did refuel during the run using energy gels which I think helped a lot. The course I ran had some hills so I was really happy with my run.

Today is a rest day. I need to finish mowing the lawn but that's about it for today. Surprisingly my legs do not feel sore.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Friday my legs were sore from the Thursday workout. I still went for my run at a slow pace, 5 miles in a little over an hour. I thought my legs were feeling pretty good until I tried to get back into my car afterwards. OMG was that painful! My legs were very stiff and sore. I took an extra day off of running on Saturday. Yesterday I only mowed half the yard to let them rest some more. This morning I did my sprints and my legs felt pretty good. I did 12 sprints, 30 sec fast 60 sec jog. I was definitely cold this morning though. I did a half mile warm-up which helped loosen me up.

Tomorrow will be leg day. That'll mean I won't try to run two days in a row after working out legs. Hopefully the soreness will fade although I don't know why it came back after taking only a week off. Maybe it's just a sign of age.

Still on a low carb diet. I don't think I'm in ketosis since my protein has been high. I should be good as long as I maintain my calorie deficit. I'll see how it goes for this week's weigh in and adjust as needed.

I hope everybody has a wonderful Monday!
