Test Week!
This is going to be a "test" week for me. The test will consist of seeing if I can pay attention to what I eat, make healthy choices all of the time (rather than just until I've saved up enough calories for something that really isn't a healthy choice), and, by my next weigh-in this Friday, see if I have lost any weight.
Wish me luck!

There would have been a larger drop in weight if the heat were not so extreme and my cold/allergies were not so entrenched. The doctor has prescribed medication that already seems to be helping although I still woke up coughing again last night (but not as often). I'm enjoying the fruit, veggies, legumes, nuts and seeds part of the whole food diet but working towards no dairy is going to be a slow process. I simply do not like the thickeners used in just about every non-dairy milk so it looks like I'm going to have to make my own almond milk. Coconut milk is okay for deserts, I guess. For some reason, manufacturers find it necessary to excessively sweeten their yogurts and ice creams. I can't understand this since the goal is to make a healthier yogurt or ice cream -- not just an "other" version of milk products. In fun news, I got my sprouts starter kit and am looking forward to making my own sprouts. :)

Making an effort to go vegetarian with the goal of vegan is helping all by itself. I can feel my tastes changing already. The hardest things to replace are milk products. I like homemade (and Fage!) Greek yogurt, homemade ice cream, Havarti cheese, Italian cheeses. Trying out Almond, soy and coconut milks but I can't understand why the producers find it necessary to add thickening agents. I'm coming from skim milk so the thickness actually puts me off. Veggies and fruits have always been on my happy list so that is not a problem at all. In fact, I'm truly enjoying not having to justify eating "just" the veggies without a meat product in my meals!
Excercise was a real problem this week. The heat is unbearable and twicely so for me with my health issues. Just getting through the day is a challenge. The good news is that the heat will be abating in my area and I'm looking forward to getting out and walking again in addition to my stationary bike. Weight went up 0.2 lbs and I'm feeling pretty good about that. I'm so happy to be solidly in the 230s rather than 240s. I've met my criteria for staying at or below 235/236 for over a week so I can claim that weight now. Now ... 220s!

My weight is 235.6. Not surprising considering the trip to New York and last week's disaster with the power outage and having to eat out as frequently as we did. I am very pleased that all the walking and exercise kept me from putting on more weight! As I transition to vegan there should be some interesting changes. Some dairy substitutions will have 0 cholesterol but may have a bit more fat than I'm used to consuming. This will be fat from nuts rather than animal and I'm curious to see how that will tally up in the calories and how I will feel after consuming them as compared to consuming animal fats.

Despite being pummelled with antibiotics, derecho, power outtage, heat exposure and eating whatever could be found in Manassas -- I still managed to have a cumulative 1 lb. loss. Maybe I sweat it off. ;) Back to entering weight and activities again now that the power is back. I would try to remember everthing I ate but that would 1) take a lot of remembering and 2) probably be pretty embarrassing to note the stuff I actually did eat.
