MegSchap's Journal, 06 Jan 14

I don't think I will join any more challenges for awhile. Not until I've gotten better into the swing of this. I'm having such a hard time with this because I LOVE the taste of food. I'm not picky, either. I LOVE most any kind of food. It makes things very difficult. I don't know how to get past the pure wonderment of the way food tastes. And I'm being quite serious. It is a huge problem for me. So what does one do? It isn't even a will power thing. It's just I can't resist a good tasting meal. Or a good tasting snack. I wonder if there's a way to kill one's taste buds...?
Anyway...no more challenges until I can get it together, here.

I completely understand. I really like healthy food and veggies. I also love baked goods. Salty food. Very few things I do not like. My daughter doesn't understand why I make sounds when I eat good stuff. It bothers her. I just tell her I am like the chefs on the food network. They are very verbal when they taste their food. I have a love affair with food. Always have. Always will. But it has affected my health so now I am learning to adjust to portions and staying away from what hurts me. I am getting my head around the idea that I don't have choice anymore. Trust me I am not there yet, but I do acknowledge the truth of it (which for me is more than half the battle). Alcohol addiction runs in my family, my alcohol is food.

Yes, I understand what you're saying. I fight with this EVERY day, as you read in my journal. It is starting to effect my health as well, and yet it's still so difficult to just say NO. I am still trying, so I haven't given up yet, and that's saying something. I've been so close to doing just that, but then I watch these shows on TV of people who are so big and so miserable and I just can't let myself give up then. So, onward and rather than upward, I want to go downward...in weight that is. :-) Thanks for writing. It's a lot easier when you know you're not alone.

Hang in there Meg. That is why I tried to make this one a friendly challenge. Just one to get started, and support each other. Were here if you want to chat.

I really enjoy food, too--I think we're really wired for that. But if you can keep your portions of the tasty "bad" foods down, just enjoying a small treat at a time, you don't necessarily have to stop eating them. Anyway, that's what works for me, but I measure them and put the rest of the food away before eating any snack. You'll find your own ways, and fail sometimes, and get up and try again--good luck!

I have always suffered with bad cravings especially at night, eating too much, snacking, etc. My husband says there is no food I don't like - hi might be right. However, NOW, after some advice from some of the FS buddies here I'm trying low carb and higher protein. It's working! The low carbs seem to help loose weight and the higher protein seems to keep me full. Truly no cravings. (Oh - and that means no white bread, white sugar, that kind of thing) Give it a shot - might just work for you too. Have a great day!

Low carbs and high protein...I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the support from all of you. As I mentioned in my journal, I've switched my thinking to "I can't do this" to "I'm going to do this". I want to be positive, not negative, and reading back on my journals I see how negative and winey I've been. So, attitude, I think, has a lot to do with this, too. So no more wining, and much more "up" thoughts. Again...thank you guys, so much, for being there and for your positive thoughts and encouragement. You guys are the best!!!
