Losing 0.3 kg a Week
12 May 2010
So my weight is up about 3 pounds. I can say honestly that I care, but I'm not concerned, largely because of everything going on right now.
So, Friday my wife wanted to go celebrate. She had just tested positive for pregnancy and it seemed a worthy time. She's probably about 4 to 6 weeks along in the pregnancy now.
This meant that Mother's Day was a big celebration (and therefore big eating) day. Both of our mom's at separate events, so we had plenty to eat. I'm still coming down off the sugar high.
Now, of course, "expecting father" panic hasn't caught up with me yet. However, I'm afraid that I'm dedicating a lot of time to clearing out one of the bedrooms we'd been using as storage to convert it into a nursery. This means putting away a lot of hobbies that I just don't have time for, while still getting in all my exercise and working overtime (a project deadline is coming up. Amazing how everything comes together at once...).
We still haven't announced it generally, but I figure I can announce it early here. After the first OB/GYN appointment we'll have a lot more info and we'll let friends and distant family know. Of course, she's happy since she gets to eat more (she's tiny so more in this case is 1700 - 1800 kcals). Well, she's also happy since she's expecting. :)
Wish us luck!

Gaining 0.8 kg a Week

Well, it has been a while since I last put in a journal entry. However, a great deal has happened so I have a good excuse.
First, I am once again injury free. Now the only pain I experience is the creaking joints of my impending dotage. It is a good feeling to wake up and not be horribly sore.
Second, I went to my brother's wedding this weekend. We drove, so it ended up being 14 hours round trip, plus we drove all over the San Francisco Bay area and that added another several hours. Between that and over eating I actually managed to put on 7 pounds, but most of that is water weight. I'm back down to 185 this morning.
Third, I have a new schedule. I think this one is doable since it has a lot of low impact days in it:
Monday: Gym at lunch, martial arts at night
Tuesday: Salsa dance lessons at night
Wednesday: Gym at lunch, run the dog in the evening (3 - 5 miles), kick boxing at night
Thursday: Run the dog in the evening(3 - 5 miles), kick boxing at night
Friday: Gym at lunch, kick boxing at night (optional if I missed Wed. or Fri.), Salsa dancing late night (also optional).
Saturday: Martial arts in the morning, walk the dog (2 miles)
Sunday: Rest (and walk the dog 2 miles)
It seems a little crowded up there, but truth to tell I feel pretty lazy on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Salsa lessons are far less intense of a workout than I expected. I'd liken it to power walking only with more breaks.

So my sparring injuries (and subsequent re-injuries) are largely gone and it appears my body is ready to reflect that. Of course, me being me, I went ahead and stayed as active as ever including helping teach a woman's self defense class last weekend. It turns out that a 100 lb woman can really lay the smack down when your ribs are bruised. ;)
Speaking of staying active, last night was the first group class for Salsa dance. My wife wants to start dancing on weekends and it sounds like fun so I'm learning. She, of course, has picked it up just from going to clubs. I need some help, but at least I'm not totally inept.
I hope everyone finds themselves in good health and spirits!
