I had a major departure from fat secret for a while, but I'm back. I got a phone call at the end of March saying I had "won the lottery" and was selected for an intensive medical intervention weight loss study. At that time I was told I would likely begin in April. However, the cutoff to qualify was 40 BMI and at the time I was only 3 lbs shy of being under weight. So for the month of April I had many "last meals" and ceased dieting all together to ensure that I would quailfy for the program. So here I am, back up to 253 lbs and excited about this new adventure.
The program is a 5 year observational study that includes 1-4 months of an all liquid diet (shakes provided by them) followed by 4-6 months of a highly structured diet, followed by four years of annual check-ins. During the first 8 month period I would have regular clinic visits and mandatory group sessions.
I went for my intake visit yesterday at the research clinic. I was weighed, measured, given an ECG, had tons of blood drawn and filled out a mountain of paperwork. I've answered so many questions about my psychological state and possible eating disorders that I'm beginning to feel like maybe I should. Now I'm just waiting for my test results to come back and they will call me to tell me when I can start the diet. I am expecting the call tomorrow and would start the diet Thursday, May 10th.
