I have been avoiding the scales for obvious reasons. Hate having to start all over again, but it is all my doing.

Don't solely rely on the scale readings. I use to do that. I've researched that a number of factors need to be factored in including water weight, muscle weight and fat loss.

Winter time here in Aus, I am noticing big changes just from day to day which I assume is water weight.

Thanks for your thoughts, people. My view on scales is that while they are great for showing trends, we need to be aware of short term fluctuations due to level of hydration, salt intake and even the mass of what we have recently ingested.
I normally go low salt and when I lapse and have a very salty meal, I can add a kilogram to mye weight overnight in additional water retention.
