Have you checked into Dr. Greger at nutritionfacts.org? I use his Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen app to help me make sure I get adequate nutrition on a mostly plant-based diet. I'm not 100% plant-based, but mostly

A vegan diet is not just a matter of not eating meat and eating fruits and vegetables. You still need to provide your body with the key ingredients (essential amino acids) that we might normally get from meat. A bit of homework is required to make this a sound nutritional plan. Best of luck to you.

Kenna -- the idea that you have to be ultra-careful on a vegan diet to get all your amino acids is kind of a myth. If you're eating adequate calories and a variety of foods that include legumes and whole grains, I've found it's easy to get adequate protein. Christopher Gardner, a Stanford nutrition researcher, has some interesting lectures on YouTube. There are, indeed, inadequate vegan diets, and there are certain nutrients to supplement or be cognizant of -- B12 in particular, but also the EPA/DHA Omega 3 oils from fish and zinc.. But there are plenty of inadequate omnivore diets, too. A balanced vegan diet with adequate nutrition takes some mindfulness, but so does any healthy diet

Writingwyo—- exactly. A wide variety of food sources helps to provide those essential elements. My neighbor who is East Indian is both a lifelong vegan and a Registered Dietician with three masters in various aspects of nutrition. I have learned so much from her. We have a huge Mediterranean type market near us and I love to shop with her. Incredible fruits and vegetables, nuts and, seeds, beans, that are totally not part of the standard American diet. Even better, she cooks all this stuff and shares it with me. What a wonderful world of satisfying flavors. The “average” American vegan, —- the average American, knows very little about nutrition of any kind. Self education is important on any health related subject.

Thank you everyone for your comments and support. To Kenna Morton and 50 goals, I too have done quite a bit of research and am perfectly sure that I will get all the nutrients I need through this diet. Onward ho. And to the rest of you, thank you for commenting. I didn't expect it and was thrilled by it. Especially to see a welcome back from Maine Coon! Shout out buddy! and any plant-based people that want buddies in their journey I'd love to be buddies with you too.
