Eating has never been an issue for me. But my coworkers say that they are never hungry at these hours until the sun starts to come up. Sleeping is a different story. I pop melatonin by the hand full and still only manage to get 3-4hrs. Trying to sleep during the day is the hardest thing. Especially in the summer.

I feel you on the night shifts. I worked swing shifts where I rotated every week to a different shift. My sleeping has never been the same.

The sleep issue for shift workers is enormous - I have been there before. Even one glint of light around a window negates sleep --- it is harsh. Once I had to aluminum foil over top of bedroom curtains (since putting foil on the windows suggests Grow Op) --- not a nice look - over the curtains and taped to the frame and wall around the window - just to block all of the light. The sleep issue is harsh and even a bit of light negates the sleep. It is difficult to trick the body.

I worked night shift one summer. Ear plugs, dark eyemask, no coffee after 1 in the morning, I think I managed 5 or 6 hours a night. I worked 9 pm to 5 am, slept from 7 to 3 if I could, and then got out and socialized as much as possible from 5 to 8 at night. I kept to a schedule and had a construction crew to manage so we all had breaks and "lunch" on a schedule to keep on track. Hope you are making a lot of money working nights!
