Just three weeks ago, I was frustrated with hitting a plateau. I was working out, and watching what I ate, but I seemed stuck at a certain point. But in the three weeks since, I have experienced the loss of my father, which also included a trip to Colorado to be with family and for the memorial service. In the week I was gone, I did not journal, although I did try not to go into eating "auto-pilot", and other than the walking through airports and other basic moving about, did not do any type of formal workout. I was surprised, quite pleasantly, I might add, that in that week, I only gained 1.8lbs! Now here is where my disbelief comes in: in the week since being home, I have dropped 8lbs! I have gone back to journaling my food, but I have not got back into the gym. That will be my next step.

I read the article, "Why Scales Lie", and it helped me to realize that our bodies fluctuate, and that the number on the scale only reflects that fluctuation, so hopefully, when the next plateau comes, I will remember to take it into perspective, and maybe, just maybe, give myself a short break, if for no other reason, but to keep my body from messing with my mind.
