Yesterday, I did something that should be very helpful to me as i work toward wellness. My doctor had referred me to a nurse case manager to help me set goals and identify strategies to increase my well being and improve my health. I've been a social worker/case manager for years, and thr thought of getting on the other side of the desk whist some (much younger than me) person helped me in this way was pretty scary.
I think I was a bit hostile for the first moment or two. I'm going to blame it on anxiety. The truth was, I was so sure that she would be really rigid in terms of her feelings about diabetes care, weight, etc. She was actually pretty flexible. And she really listened! The hour just flew by. I walked out with some new knowledge, a definite plan of action for the next few months, and maybe a little more hope.
The big thing, for me, was that I was having a hard time getting active. I have some physical problems that really interfere with my life. The nurse arranged for me to see a fellow who is both a recreational therapist and a kinesiologist. She assures me that he will work with me to find activities I like, that I can do, and that will improve my health. Yay!

I was surprised by this. I knew I had done everything "right", but I wasn't expecting as big a loss.

I don't usually eat any special low carb foods, but I made oopsie rolls tonight as a substitute for a hamburger bun. They work well, though they are a bit eggy. Not a problem for an egg fan like me. The numbers on the site are the same as for the recipe I use.
That's a good thing. It's really annoying to find that so many of the things I routinely buy in Canada are not in the Db. I do the scan the barcode and hope thing. ABout half the time, I have to add the item as a new food. Tonight I had to add in Butcher's Choice Cheddar Cheese Beef Hamburgers. They are the best frozen burgers I've found--better be for 350 calories.
The change to the extended release metformin has my numbers up. I'm assuming it is because the doc started me on a really low dose and that once I get back to the correct one, all will be well. The stomach distress which was the reason I made the change is gone!
