25 August 2009

I started Atkins (again) on Sunday, 23 August 2009. I've had some success with Atkins in the past but I never follow through the stages and never lost all the weight I need to. I find it hard to cut the cravings for sugar. I just have to have it eventually. Usually around that time of the month I guess.

Maybe this will be a good way of keeping track of the days I'm desperate for carbs and I can work out a way around it.

I had a thyroidectomy 16 years ago and gained about 25 kilos in the 6 months following that. I've never been able to shed them. In fact in the last year or so, I have given up and become a lazy git who eats chocolates and chippies whenever I want to and have gained even MORE weight!

I have to break out of this cycle and at least TRY to lose weight, TRY to find a balance, TRY to get some good health back. Ultimately that's what it's all about for me. Being healthy.

Also if I ever have to see my family again I do NOT want to be 110 kilos! My father put me down all my childhood telling me I needed to lose weight and that I was fat. I left high school at about 77 kilos. I look back at that and think, gods, if only I could go back to that! I was so vibrant and happy and energetic. Parents can be so cruel!

So day 3, I've mostly passed the headache stage although my head still feels pretty foggy and verging on breaking into another migraine at any stage. I'm not feeling great but I am determined to lose weight!

My best mate died last October from obesity related illnesses, at the ages of 54. I lost 9 kilos after that, but have put it all back on! How could I be so weak willed?

Today I will go buy more ketostix as I'm almost out, but I checked the night before last and my urine is showing strong ketones.

I've removed most of the 'bad' stuff in my pantry to somewhere else (I'm still cooking for my 16 year old son who has hyperglycaemia and needs to put weight ON). I just have to remember to incorporate a carb in his meal each night.

Positive energy to all, we CAN do it, because as they say, nothing is impossible. Let's give it our best shots.
