69 year old male. Caregiver for my (94 year old) Mother with Alzheimer's from mid 06 to June 2015. I Gained 40 lbs trying to get her to eat. I found myself at 203 to 206 lbs! I made a resolution to get down to 165. By the time I got organized and found that focusing on calorie reduction alone wasn't enough I blasted right through the 165 goal and I decided I could get to a much healthier weight. This site and the app on my cell phone have made it easy for me to track what I eat. I started reducing carbs to less than 100g, protien to 90-100g and calories as near to 1500 a day in mid September 2009. I reached 135 lbs sometime in the fall of 2010 and not only did I keep it off but I drifted down to 129 lbs before adding back some healthy fats to get back to 134 lbs. I've gained about 10 lbs the last 4 months while living with a friend and helping him and his wife through his final months with cancer. There was no time to fix separate meals for myself and they ate like teenagers. The secret I want to leave with everyone is you can eat until you are full. No corn syrup or hydrogenated oils, avoid high glycemic sweeteners like cane sugar. Try to use Stevia sweetener and minimize packaged sweeteners like Splenda. I use low or fat free items to keep the calories down. You can make your own dressings with Greek Yoghurt base using spices, onion and garlic powder etc.
