Multiplicity1's Journal, 13 Apr 10

I had a good day today. I walked 45 minutes. Yesterday I watched some of my workout DVD's. One of the dance DVD's is to complicated to follow so I bought a yoga weight loss DVD to replace it. I want to buy a new exercise mat and a new digital scale. I know I will probably have a weight gain when I switch over to a digital scale though. I think they are probably more accurate than spring scales. I lost 3 lbs. this week probably because I ended up eating less calories and not eating enough veggies. I didn't intend to do those things I just had some screw-ups and didn't get all my veggies in so my calories were low. I am happy to have another 3 lbs. gone especially since this is my first week on OWL. I am not managing to eat 25 grams of net carbs most days though. I will probably try adding different fruits and nuts before I add any more food groups. I need to get my carbs up however. And I really need to focus this week on getting my veggies in. That is going to be very hard the 3 1/2 days I am on retreat but I am planning on taking some pepper strips, some celery strips and I will be able to get some salads and other vegetables at retreat. But I won't be able to get my normal amt. of veggies in. I am going to prepare all my food tonight and tomorrow for my retreat. I think I will have plenty of options to help me avoid tempting foods.
The Beck Diet Solution task for today is to stop fooling yourself about reason's to eat something that is not on your food plan. For example the author says many people use one of the following list of reasons to fool themselves into eating something they shouldn't: "It's not a whole piece... I'll eat it only this one time...Ii's not that fattening... I'll make up for it by eating less later...It won't matter...I paid for it...It'll go to waste...I'll disappoint someone if I don't...Everyone else is eating it...I'm celebrating...No one will see me eating it...It's just the crumbs...It's free...I really want it...It's a special occasion...I'm upset, and I just don't care...I'm craving it, and I'll probably just eat it eventually."
Dr. Beck suggests writing a Response card with the following message - "It's Not Okay - It's not okay to eat unplanned food of any kind. I'm just trying to fool myself. Every single time I eat something I am not supposed to, I strengthen my giving-in muscle and weaken mt resistance muscle. I might feel good for the few seconds I'm eating but I'll feel bad afterwards. If I want to lose excess weight and keep it off, I absolutely must stop fooling myself." She suggests you read this card daily maybe when you are reading your advantages for losing weight list and at other times you are tempted to cheat on your food plan.

Hi Andrea! Congrats on your day yesterday. And I hope you like your yoga DVD's. Sometimes it's nice to pop in a DVD and sweat and grunt and groan in the privacy of your own home. I'm hooked on them, myself. : ) Also congratulations on your 3 lb weight loss! That's amazing, I hope you pat yourself on the back. I'm telling you, this losing weight at our age is so very difficult. At least for me it is. Two months to lose 10 lbs while dieting pretty consistently and eating wholesome, healthy foods for the most part, AND exercising nearly 1 1/2 hrs. a day, six days a week. And a lousy 10 lb weight loss to show for it. But I'll still take it. : ) I think I found your lost 3 lbs on my Girls Weekend. You can have 'em back if you want 'em. At least you're prepared to see the number on the scale be higher when you get a digital scale. My own scale was off by 4 1/2 lbs at my weight, 5 at my daughter's. So that was discouraging, but it didn't actually change anything. The only real issue is most of us haven't been able to change our starting weight, regardless of what the program says. I've tried a hundred times by now and each time it comes back with change not allowed. Frustrating, but I guess if you make a note of it in your journal, it's okay. The good thing with a digital scale is that if you're losing weight, like you are, then you get immediate gratification since it shows .1 or .7 or whatever. So each day in a case like yours you may see the scale drop a little bit, which can help when motivation lags. But it sucks when the scale seems to be stuck, no matter what you do. Good luck with your meals during your retreat. Hopefully they won't have cake! : ) You seem quite determined to succeed, so I'm sure you'll do just fine. Let us know how the retreat went. Continued success!

Great going on the 3lbs - that is wonderful! When do you leave on the retreat? Will be missing you. Have a great time, you deserve it.

I bought a digital scale and it showed about a 4 lb. weight difference. It does suck even though it is only number. And ever since I bought the scales I havn't been able to get it to come back down. Oh well, we will stick with it and eventually see results. You are doing great. Keep up the good work and good luck on your retreat. You can do it. Planning ahead like you are is a great start.
