Trying2Improve's Journal, 18 Dec 17

I feel good today I consumed only 1471 calories today and I set my goal as 2000 a day. I don't feel hungry or anything maybe a bit tired due to exercising. I did drink Dr. Pepper (my weakness) but it was calculated in my calories and also I ate whole wheat bread (another weakness) but again it was calculated though. So I don't know if I really made progress on what I consume but I did exercise. 😕
Does it really matter what we eat if we still consume with in the limit? Some people say it does some say it doesn't. What are you guys thoughts?

Newnbetter, I invite you to Common Sense Keto on FB, to see if the info makes sense to you. I definitely agree that what you eat matters far more than how much you exercise. I personally am keeping protein under 50 (in the 30-50 range) because too much can cause an insulin spike. No bueno.

I thought it didn’t matter, either, but I notice that when I eat “starchy” carbs, I don’t lose weight, and actually put a little ON, even if I allowed for and counted the carbs etc in. I think things like bread go right to sugar production in your body, or something. I know since I stopped even gluten free bread and substituted Real Food’s “Corn Thins” (in moderation) I have lost more weight than since I was seeing Dr Akins in NYC. That was a keto diet, but too extreme — 0 (that’s ZERO) carbs. But I went from a size 18 to a size 10 in 4 months. Was also losing my hair from malnutrition even tho I was spending $200/wk on vitamin supplements!

stromie - were you eating low fat as well. many proteins and nutrients can't be absorbed unless there is some fat in the diet. some examples are Vit. A, E, D and K. Vitamins A and E are big ones for hair

newnbetter - your absolutely right losing weight isn't about the 1hr you spend on the hamster wheel. It's about the other 23 hrs of the day...that hour is only 4% of your day.

After reading all of this nobody likes to exercise.I got it according to everyone's facts, figures, studies,% etc.etc.etc.From what I gathered you can eat your way to utopia and sit in your favorite chair doing it! haha lol

@marquis.w.knight: it was an unlimited fat diet. I cooked with olive oil, ate nuts, etc. The original Atkins diet was a nutritional horror: unlimited meat, poultry, and sea food, plus 4 cups of green lettuces per day. I could use 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and oil on the salad. NO carbs - not even vegetables! After I lost all the weight I “bargained” with him to allow tomatoes or cucumbers on the salad, and some sort of green veggie. I promptly STOPPED losing any more weight! (And this was when I was young enough and healthy enough to go to aerobics 3x a week!). As soon as I added even a small portion of tofu, I started gaining weight. It was all back, plus 5 more lbs, in 3 months, without adding bread or pasta. My hair stopped falling out, and I could save the $200/week I’d been spending on Atkins vitamins. (All on credit cards 😱) So I’m a lot happier this time — I’ve lost 21 lbs since using FS in October, no hair loss, don’t look much different yet, but people HAVE noticed.

Some days I eat 'garbage' - but, when I do... I (try to) keep it under 1600 calories.

I think it's more important to eat more calories of good quality food than less calories in junk food. Weight lose and weight gain happen because of how your food affects your hormones. Calories in/calories out is being proven more and more not to matter as much as how your hormones react to your food/exercise/sleep/stress etc. Just my opinion, but I also think 1400 is too low. You may see initial weight loss but it will catch up with you and you will stall and get your hormones all messed up. Not to mention, you will feel tired and hungry all the time.
