mamamc7's Journal, 09 Dec 17

So yesterday was kind of a “fasting” type day, not by choice, I didn’t grab any items for myself at the continental bfast to save... went to a local deli with my fam, planned to buy some just turkey, pickles and cheese... the owner said he doesn’t sell it that way, I said “so I want to buy a sandwich with just no bread”... “sorry we don’t do that.” Ughhhh I was so shocked and offended, sleep deprived and emotional that I just walked away... I wanted to cry. So I guess this has been a 36hr fast, not by choice 😱 but maybe good for my system? We shall see... I haven’t slept more than 4 hours total this week... still under mandatory evac. Spent up all our rent money and don’t know what to do next.

Going to snag some snack items today at the inn. Lesson learned.

Sorry the deli was not more accommodating, I have found many restaurants actually have added lettuce wraps or are very happy to leave off the "bun"! I am in NC

This was my first encounter of anything like this... that’s why I was so shocked and offended. Not to mention it was a locally owned deli and the owner is my uncles really good friend... I almost went bonkers and told him how upset it was making me and how I know who he is, even if he doesn’t know me... and how bad business travels faster than good business!!

I bet your uncle would talk to him- Tell your uncle what you are doing and how his friend could benefit from tweaking his menu -

I just reread your story again and you know he wouldn't have done that to his mother, wife or child..that was totally incomprehensible and with your medical condition.Boy that burns me up.

John and Murph, fires are now spreading to their city... I will definitely call this business and I will probably vent to my uncle... but they are now in Crisis themselves. In some selfish way I hope my simple request for a breadless sandwich resonates with then when they realize they could have done more to help their community and costumers

These are the kinds of requests when we buy our food that can kill us and servers continually make people “explain.” Just to get what I used to consider reasonable service. I don’t know how many “joking” stories I’ve heard of servers giving regular soda instead of the diet requested, scraping off cheese, condiments, burying parts like bacon bits or sour cream that are asked to be left off. At least this was a flat out refusal. I guess that was something. I’ve pretty much stopped eating out at all but a few restaurants and at those I pretty much control what goes into my food and onto my plate because if allergies that make me deathly ill. I don’t have the bandwidth any more to argue with ignorant and rude people who don’t want my business. I do stores, mostly natural food stores or bulk when I can and Mongolian style food that I can semi-control. I hate that you had to deal with this on top of the rest of it this time of year. We’re still dealing with the fire recovery up here and my sister is still in and out of the hospital with her breathing. My thoughts are with you.

I'd get it with the sandwich and remove the bread. Easier than having to explain. Good luck.

Smprowett that’s awful. I also rarely eat out... but being displaced from the fire and limited funds we had to a few times. I was also sick most of the week. 💔

@smprowett we have returned home, the air is toxic, luckily we were gifted an air purifier, but need two more for our house size ☹️, funds are limited after a week living out of a hotel, so we have access to stores but not able to buy all the foods we would like, keto diet may have to wait until January...

Sometimes I just buy the F-N sandwich, when they tell me that, and have to throw the bread away, but lately I tell them a small vib, ?? that I'm highly allergic to bread/ Flour and that I really wanted to eat here, and that seems to work ???

Faking an allergy usually works for me too haha.

I’m not faking an allergy, so I have to be really careful. Being celiac is not fun... ☹️ luckily I found a very thorough authentic pizza place with very knowledgeable employees!! Buttttttt I also don’t want to be eating pizza often 😩

Celiacs is no joke. I know a few people that suffer from it. In that case, I would have boldy and truthfully told them it was an allergy. I do understand it was a stressful situation though and I often don't react well in situations as such myself. Prayers for you and everyone effected by this disaster.
