sixtytolose's Journal, 19 Jan 12

so angry at myself. I have absolutely NO motivation. A family friend even GAVE me her elliptical that she wasn't using, but I can't seem to make myself get off my butt and use it... If I keep going the way I'm going, I'm going to look like a beached whale on my cruise this summer. I only have a little over 150 days until we leave... =(

I'm sure you know what to do, but still... here goes: Start using the food journal. Enter EVERYTHING in it, EVERYTHING that you eat or drink except water. Start using the exercise calender. Start using your elliptical. Daily. Then journal every day. You can do it. Sure, it's tough in the beginning, but after a few weeks it's a lot easier. Let's go! :)

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely try the journaling.. I've done it in the past, but I always end up cheating. Like, "oh, it was just a SMALL cookie, I don't have to write it down..." But, I will definitely stick with it this time. And I'm getting my lazy butt on the elliptical as soon as I get home from school this afternoon. Thanks again! =)

My pleasure. Sometimes we just need someone to point out the obvious things. I always recommend a daily journal, as it keeps one focused. Also, announcing your weight loss mission to the world, like on Facebook, really helps to commit. Make it difficult to back out. Only way to go is forward. It can be done, and after a while it becomes second nature and a LOT easier than you'd think...

To add to Keld's good advice, once you do start entering it all in and whatnot, you miss it if you skip a day! You have time to get on the elliptical, and believe me, it's my FAVE machine! I can spend an hour on that easy whereas a treadmill is a trudgery after 10 minutes. Good luck, and you can DO this!!

Finding motivation is a tough one for sure. Lets face it we all have been there. Its fantastic youve been given a great gift of the elip, and wonderful you have tools such as fs and journaling ect. But if you dont feel motivated to use them what good are they? There is a lot of talk about how important mind set is. Maybe as important as the diet changes and getting on that elip. After all if we cant convince ourselve to get on it what good is it? Some tips in that area; Work on TODAY and only today. Dont think about how your cruise is in 150 days. Today I will do 20mins on the elip. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Stop walking by the machine instead step on it and do say 5 minutes and when that feels okay do 5 more until you are up to 20 or more minutes. You dont even have to dress, just get on the thing and start prodding away. Set up some sort of short term goals. This week I will...Write them down. Write your daily goals either at night before bed or each morning and then be sure to follow through. Thats where journaling can come in handy and accountability. If you have fb I can give you some great motivators to "like", read those first thing. Trust me seeing how hard everyone works and how good the results can look is a great motivator. And one last thing the moment you hear yourself tell yourself you dont have any motivation STOP and change it to "I am motivated and I will eat healthy today. I will get on that elip and ride it silly today" And then do it. As Kingkeld said eventually all your wiser choices will become second nature.
