I'm going to be honest with myself and the rest of the FatSecret community.

I think it may be time for me to adjust my diet to better suit my personal needs. I've been thinking about it a long time, and I'm starting to think that it may finally be time to allow more carbohydrates into my diet.

I do understand that much of the weight loss I have has been through the Ketogenic diet. I generally ate less than 30 net carbs a day, usually less than 20 in all reality, and felt significantly improved after a couple of weeks on the diet.

With a greater understanding of how the body uses each potential energy source, I feel that carbohydrates are not necessarily an evil to be avoided. It is the nutriet sparse varieties that are to blame, as they contain little to nothing beyond calories.

I am considering experimenting with carb-cyling and increasing my protein intake to 1 gram per pound of lean body mass. I know that is likely more than I need, but it will allow me to feel safe that I am not hindering muscle repair with a protein deficit.

I haven't set anything in stone, I'm still researching and will likely not start this diet immediately, but I'm leaning towards a 4 day rotational period of which the majority of carbs are eaten on 2 work out days followed by 2 low carb days. The types of food I'd eat would be fairly similar through all days, except an increase of a couple of carb base foods before and after a work out.

I'm thinking something like this:

Day 1: 50 Carbs / 170 Protein / 50 Fat (Low Carb/Calorie - No Workout)
Day 2: 100 Carbs / 170 Protein / 50 Fat (Low-Mod Carb/Calorie - No Workout)
Day 3: 150 Carbs / 170 Protein / 50 Fat (Mod-High Carb/Calorie - Workout)
Day 4: 200 Carbs / 170 Protein / 50 Fat (High Carb/Calorie - Workout)

It may be too soon to think about the switch. After all, I want to still lose about 105,000 calories worth of fat on my body. But it is something I'm seriously considering. Those numbers aren't exact, I'd have to increase the average intake as it is lower than my current average intake.

Food for though. I'll figure it out eventually. I wish I could tap the brains of some of more experienced lifters. I just want to get stronger and build up my metabolism so that it is easier to keep the fat off for the rest of my life.

Have at it. The leaner you get, the more carbs you can tolerate. You may want to checkout leangains.com.

Give it a shot, but keep a watchful eye out for scale creep. Maintenance is a different ball game and really is the true test. Good luck!
