thiccmami's Journal, 28 Jul 24

Currently on day 3 of a massive migraine, so my weekend was definitely ruined. Much pain. Sitting in a dark room. Swollen face. No workouts. Lots of food with cheese on it. Forgot what it’s like to be forced to do nothing. Things I’ve accomplished since Friday night: ordered groceries and took selfies. Thanks, Instacart.

Migraines are the worst!!! So sorry you're going through that. I was able to get on a preventative and it was a real game changer. If you haven't looked into one or tried one, I highly recommend speaking to your doctor about it. For me, I was finally able to function like a normal human being again.

Thank you, Karen. 🙏🏻 They are truly debilitating

Wisco, thank you so much. I’m so glad you found something that helps you. May I ask what you’re on? Is it a daily thing? I get Botox and am on sumatriptan, but still get them. I’m seeing my neurologist on Tuesday and may need to talk to him about trying something new.

there is evidence that ginger can help with migraines. Comparison between the efficacy of ginger and sumatriptan in the ablative treatment of the common migrainehttps://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23657930/

I remember you mentioning that you get from migraines before. I'm sorry that you have to suffer through this. I remember you also mentioned that when you changed your way of eating you were suffering from gas. I hope at least that has gotten better.

Thank you, wifey. It’s still going, ugh. I feel bad that I took for granted how I felt on Thursday before this started. Don’t wish this on my worst enemy. 🫠

TJ, interesting.. thank you for the link. I’ll pick some up in the morning. Will add to my remedies. Has it worked for you or it’s just something you’ve heard?

lol, Buddy. Thank you. This one is particularly brutal because it’s not going away. Officially feeling helpless. But the gas has definitely gotten better once I ditched my former diet coach’s advice on adding 2 servings of veggies to every meal. Don’t make lentil stew with cauliflower and question the fart festival that follows.

Laughs are the only medicine I am legally allowed to administer. You matter to all of us, and that's for real.

I had good success changing my diet. I suffer after common triggers and also the weather these days. Trouble for me: ripe bananas, onions raw are worse, dark chocolate if I go overboard. Anything with citrus peel like lemon cake, lemon yogurt, some orange juices that are just blended oranges. Fresh yeast bread can be a problem which makes pizza a problem. And also when I was still getting my period of course a day before was usually a problem that I could soften by taking ibuprufen at first sign of pain (aura, stiff neck). I also get a stomach response if I eat the wrong thing so I can know when to take a preventative dose of something. Good luck with the neurologist - I never had any luck with the migraines from any of the doctors I saw.

I hope you will recover soon, I know what that feels like.

I don’t know how long it has been since any of you have been reevaluated by a neurologist but just fyi there are several new meds out there that have been developed to prevent migraines in the first place. Might be worth checking into.

Appreciate the kind words, Buddy

Abba, oh wow.. so did these foods always trigger you or only sometimes? Going over everything I ate since Friday morning, I had bread, hard cheese, deli meat, bananas, coffee, and artificial sweeteners - literally all known migraine triggers. But I eat these foods on other days and don’t get migraines, so I don’t know if food is actually my trigger. I need to go back to tracking these darn migraines in my migraine journal. I have no idea.

Kenna, yes, I see my neurologist every 3 months for treatment. I am going to ask about other medication options when I see him again on Tuesday.

Meant Oh gosh.

I was doing this and it was the “carb flu” wasn’t getting enough carbs n was causing my body to hurt and migraines. Idk if that maybe your issue? Try drinking a pop or something high in sugar!
