kalligator's Journal, 27 Jul 24

Unfortunately I have gained weight and I am very sad about that, I have been trying so hard to lose it. I am going to start walking for 30 minutes each morning so hopefully that will help. And my sister said she wants to come with me some days so that will also be fun! It is hard as a teenager to eat healthy because I don't have a lot of say in what we eat. For example, we went to McDonald's today because my sister wanted to and so I didn't have any healthy options. I am also planning on drinking only water for a while, like I've seen some of you doing in your posts, especially because I am about to start marching band at school again. I know that will keep me in shape so I am really looking forward to it. I really like infused water though so I made some today and I think doing that will make me want to drink a lot more water! It's just ice, water, some frozen and some cut up strawberries, a whole sliced orange, a little bit of all natural lemonade, and a splash of lime juice. Let me know what you think of it!

What do you mean only drinking water? I’m hoping as a beverage choice and not in place of eating!

Yes! I meant as drinking water instead of other things.(maybe the occasional coffee) I've already made the mistake of not ever eating, I lost 20 lbs but I was not healthy.

I drink water, coffee (with creamer) I need one vice, lots a different teas and sparkling water. Gave up soda in 2019! Best decision ever. Hubby is on day 1 of no Coke Zero- has a headache, grumpy and already asleep 😂. It’s funny and not funny.

Your infused water looks great. You are on the right track. It’s hard when you have limited control of food choices.do the best you can and this is where portion control can help you out.

Is your weight correct in your journal? 122? Your in a great place and age to learn what healthy eating is but you need to learn. You can choose things anywhere you go and make healthy choices including McDonald's. If i eat they're, I get the hamburgers patties! No fries. Water. Cheap way is get the double cheese burger deal 2 for $3.75 and throw out the bun 😁 that's a great protein /fat ratio source. Read Jason Fung the obesity code and you'll never be obese. Skip fried battered stuff and go for the MEAT. Water, not sugar drinks like juice and soda. There. You can be healthy the rest of your life.

PS, log everything you eat just so you learn what is in food. Then get away from it. Don't eat all day long. Snacking raises insulin which is the fat storage food. What are you eating, why can't you choose to not eat the fries at mcdonalds and go for the burger patties. Their salads suck but you could get a few alla cart burger patties and put them on the salad if you really want blaa lettuce 😃

Marching band! What instrument? I marched a sousaphone my last year of high school 😁 I don't know what direction you're planning on going, but do always keep in mind health, not just weight. Also, make sure it's something you can continue doing indefinitely. And don't take anyone's authoritative word here on what to do or not do -- different strategies work for different people.

That's so cool! I play clarinet and I'm actually really excited for this season! We got 8th in state last year so I hope we do as good or better this year🤞

I really just need to fit into my uniform! I was a lot smaller last year😂

Please don’t fast at your young age! The best, healthiest, and most lasting weight loss is one what happens overtime. I played the clarinet in high school too! Best of luck to you

8th in state is a great achievement! I started on clarinet my sophomore year, switched to trombone junior year, and then finally on to tuba. Still have my old clarinet, but don't play anymore. I still, 40 years later, am in touch with my two best marching band buddies. Enjoy every minute of it while you can! I always thought it was a blast!

kalligator— now that you have mentioned that at least part of your weight loss motivation is to fit into last years band uniform I just have a couple of things to ask. How tall are you? How old are you? If it weren’t for your uniform issue would you be happy with your weight? Do you think that your weight gain is from over eating or eating too many things that aren’t conducive to stable weight management?. Kids grow and in those preteen and teen years the body reshapes. If you are 5 feet tall that is one thing but if you ave shot up a couple inches in height that is another. Eating well at this age is crucial!!! The bones are forming as is the brain and all the other organs of your body.. just possible that what you need is a new band uniform.

I played flute! I was already playing guitar and violin by then but our school didn't have a strings division! I hope you have alot of fun this upcoming schedule year!!

I love your infused water idea to replace sodas and sweet drinks. That's a habit you can take with you the rest of your life. A burger even with the bread is not taboo. Make sure your carb to protein ratio is good. Avoid big and triple buns in your choices. Now is the perfect time to form healthy eating habits!!!

kalligator -- kenna's advice is usually spot on. You have to be discerning as to whose advice you take here and on other social media, but she's one I listen to. I'll add that health is more important than a specific weight. You only get one body to go through this life in. ❤️ I'm in my 50s, and if I had to do it over again, I would have started taking care of myself sooner. I'd encourage you to follow some people you think you can learn from and set your feed to Following rather than Featured

Thank you guys! Everyone is so helpful on here! For some reference, I am 5' 2" and I'm 15 years old. I'm not worried about the number that I weigh so much as what I look like and that I'm healthy.
