Yesterday I ran on the elliptical for 30 full minutes. It was the longest I've run and also the least tired that I've felt after exercising. That's a huge win.

Hubby actually called me 20 minutes in, interrupting my new 'workout' playlist that was coming from my iPhone (lots of Lady Gaga and Coldplay), and we had a 5-minute phone conversation. It was incredible to be able to work out and talk to someone at the same time without being short of breath. What a difference from two months ago when we bought the Norditrack. My first workout was only 7 minutes long, and I had to use my asthma inhaler afterward because my lungs were tightening up.

When it comes to working out, the adage is true - practice makes perfect.

Exercise: 40 minutes on the elliptical / 275 calories burned

Breakfast
• 2 cups of coffee + half-and-half + raw sugar
• 1 small banana, 1 teaspoon natural peanut butter
• slice of toast + butter + strawberry preserves
1 BM

* Side story about breakfast - I woke up today feeling like it was time to treat myself to a cup of coffee and a piece of toast (gluten!). I ground two tablespoons of coffee beans in the spice grinder, brewed a small pot of Tim Horton's and toasted a thick slice of white bread and put butter and strawberry preserves on it. I settled onto the couch with my heated blanket turned to low and the fireplace roaring beside me... and I was underwhelmed by the food. I don't know if I've lost my taste for the things I used to love, or if it's just an off day for me, but I was so excited to treat myself and in the end the bread was bland and the coffee was meh. It's kind of disheartening to know that I don't enjoy food the way that I used to, but it also motivates me to continue eating a gluten & dairy-free diet since the "bad" stuff apparently doesn't do it for me like it used to.

Lunch
• homemade creamy chicken & wild rice soup (3 ladlefuls)
• herbal tea + honey

Snack
• 3/4 bag of Newman's own butter popcorn

Dinner

Next time I decide to "treat myself" it's going to be an amazing chocolate croissant at a little pâtisserie, or something similarly decadent. Maybe then I'll have my "wow" moment that I was hoping for today.
