WATERMELON!!! This post is for all of those on here who throw shade to the keto people. I am not throwing shade back & mean nothing demeaning by what I am about to write (I am not that type of person), but I want to try to explain our situation to you all so that you might gain some understanding. For us sugar/carb addicts, insulin resistant & diabetics, keto gives us the best chance in succeeding. Sugar/carbs light up the reward centers of the brain, just like cocaine in everyone. That is a scientific fact. While some people can use cocaine occasionally and with limitations, others are full-blown coke heads. That is the difference between us & you. After dinner last night, I tried to have a cup of watermelon. That led to 3 cups, which led to a shakedown of the entire house searching for sugar. Thankfully, there was none & that was the last of the watermelon. I had an extreme headache, so I called it a night early. I lay in the bed, tossing & turning in pure sweats for hours before I could go to sleep. I woke up several times during the night. After living in & feeding sugar/carb addiction for a while, it puts insulin in overdrive, trying to keep blood glucose down. This is where insulin sensitivity comes from. The next stage is full-blown diabetes. The addiction and insulin resistance is a double whammy. While keto might not be the best option for everyone, it is for people like me. I just don't understand why some of you people can't be more supportive, instead of throwing slurs & shade. Do you think we WANT to live this way?! Can't even enjoy a piece of watermelon for crying out loud...smh. ANYWHOOO... feeling better this morning! 🙂 I hope you ALL have a beautiful day! 😘

THANK THE HIGH HEAVENS that I must be fully keto adapted, or today would be a real struggle!!! My ketone urinalysis dropped from large amount to small amount with less than 40 net carbs last night. Right back up to large amount now! 😁

Thank you for the explanation. I always tought keto was weird ( but never said anything about it , i think too we have to respect the choice of people and that i don’t know everything about everything ). So thanks. And also, i don’t follow keto , but i did ban all sugar from what i eat . Although its difficult not to eat fruit, but yes, the sugar in fruits does trigger me . I eat lots of vegetables though.

@moko... Glad I could help! 🙂 Self-reflecting & learning to pay attention to your mind, body, and soul are the most important parts of any meaningful journey. Good luck to you! 💜

@Lise... You're welcome & Thank YOU for respecting people's choices! 🙂 If you've banned sugars & limit fruit, you could very well be spending much time in ketosis & not even know it...lol.

I watched Disney's Polar Bear today. Polar Bears are apex predators and eat seaweed only when they are starving. I thought about you and thought if you could reimagine yourself kin to bears, wild cats, wolves, orcas, hawks, eagles, and crocodiles, you will not say again, "do you think we want to live this way?" It will be normal and unquestionably your optimal diet. I get that you are experimenting right now. It seems you are coming to a reckoning of sorts. I just want your maintenance to be boring i.e. not a struggle. I think it's nearly impossible for carnivores to be fat. The only problem would be looking longingly at pizza or bread crusts. If you align yourself with predators, I think you can reshape your self image. No more nectar eating butterfly or leaf eating caterpillar.

Omg, it is the friggin worst.... Everytime I eat something salty I HAVE to have something sweet otherwise I'm in the fits... Thinking about what might I have in the house that's sweet that I can devour before looking for something else, always short of downing the whole container of sugar.. It's usually chocolate I crave but always sweet and that's the only thing that will be on my mind, how badly I want something sweet, no matter what time it is... I've gotten out of my bed at 4 in the morning before just to go to the gas station and get me something sweet bc I didn't have any in the house... Sugar and Pepsi is my biggest issue. It's extremely hard to kick that habit and yes I've tried the watermelon thing and it's like it's sweet but it's the wrong kind of sweet... It's nothing like the sweet you know you're not suppose to be eating.... My sugar cravings are so much worse after a fast.. So still trying to figure out what works for me.. But until then, I'll dance battle with my demons..

Queen, what happens if you do eat something sweet? Does it fuel a desire for more, or do you feel satisfied? Are you one of those people that can eat half a chocolate bar and save the rest for later (I'm not). Is it all or none, or maybe some?

Several things I really like about keto. First, you lose weight rather quickly right away. That is obviously good for motivational purposes. Second, you get a report card every day (if you wish) telling you whether your perceptions of how you did are realistic. Third, I am never actually hungry (eggs are really filling, folks.) So it's easier to stay the course. Yes, I miss pasta and breads. Sweets, not so much. But most of that is just mouth hunger -- not actual body hunger. It's easy to determine whether you are actually hungry or just mouth hungry. Just ask yourself "Could I eat a pork chop right now?" If the answer is "No" it's really just mouth hunger. Just knowing that makes it easier to resist the carbs. Just my two cents worth.

Blue zone diet, the places on earth where people are the healthiest and live the longest: "The diet is mostly plant-based. The daily food intake of people living in Blue Zones is about 95% vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes. They do not eat much meat, dairy, sugary foods or drinks, and processed food."

Maybe choose carbs that are more satiating like potatoes, blueberries, etc.

Oh I gotta have the whole thing and might opt to get another one just to make sure the beast is sleep now... Today, I actually did good bc I fought that demon at work. I had a Pepsi, I won't lie about that but I fought the urge to go to the vending machine.. Am I fiening? Hell yeah I am, so bad I'm about to lose my mind. I'm doing my best not to break out the emergency stash of dove dark chocolate with sea salt caramel.. I'm going to get my fix by eating apple jelly on toast after eating something salty so that I can take the beast long enough to get some proper sleep.

@Qu33n... Welcome to the dance! 🙃

@BigAl... You are absolutely correct in all that you say. I have no cravings on keto 99% of the time. I was just doing some experimenting that I knew I shouldn't have been doing.

@Diablo... I can do a few blueberries, as long as I limit them to a very small amount. Potatoes on the other hand, not so much. ...and rice does me even worse that the watermelon.
