This was the bestest. Weekend. Evar!
True story... for reals.
I took off work Friday to go nerd out at QuakeCon. Walking into that place was an odd experience because it was inside one of the ritziest hotels in the area. Then you turn around one more corner and BAM! Nerds galore. I got to see the first public demo of Brink (awesome!), play the new Wolfenstein and WET before they release (super awesome!), and hang out and be goofy with a bunch of other gamers (super mega awesome!).
I woke up Saturday at 6AM and ran 10 miles. This was my last long run in training. All I have left now is a 4 mile run on Tuesday and a 2 mile run on Thursday before the Hottest Half this Sunday. I am psyched. At this point I am confident that I can finish the 13.1 miles without dying. Hopefully I can have some fun while I'm out there too... or at least not get my photo taken with the "Oh dear God I'm gonna die!" look on my face. LOL
After I got home from the 10 miler I immediately ate as much food as I could stuff myself with and iced my legs. At 1PM my friend Anthony and I went to Mayhem Fest. For those of you that didn't catch the other journal, Mayhem Fest is a big heavy metal festival. Only one word can describe the experience... EARGASM! We snaked our way to the front of the side stages so we were right next to the speakers. I think I've permanently lost some hearing... totally worth it. There were two side stages, but all the bands we wanted to see (God Forbid, All That Remains, Trivium) were on the same one, so we just stayed there to guarantee our spots. And now... random pics.
God ForbidAll That RemainsAll That Remains is quickly becoming my favorite band and Mayhem Fest probably sealed the deal. I can now say with 100% certainty that when the lead singer of a band points you out from a crowd of thousands that you become invincible. True story. And since every male ATR fan has a giant crush on Jeanne, their bassist, it didn't hurt that she played right in front of us for most of the set.
At about 6PM the main stage bands started playing. The seating was reserved so I was about 50 rows back, but it was still amazing. We saw Bullet for My Valentine, Killswitch Engage, and Slayer. Marilyn Manson was the last act, but my friend and I really didn't care to stay to see him. I like a lot of his stuff, but when you've just had your face melted off by the awesomness of Slayer, industrial pop music just doesn't cut it. :P
Needless to say, I woke up Sunday with what I can only describe as a metal hangover. My ears were still ringing, I was dehydrated, and my whole body was sore (especially my headbanging muscles LOL). Again... totally worth it.
Sunday was also my roommate's birthday so we went out with some peeps for dinner and to see District 9. I thought it was going to be good, but WOW... that movie is amazing. I highly recommend it. I had this whole idea in my head about how the movie was going to play out from watching the trailer, but it goes in a completely different direction. Good stuff.
