pawpo's Journal, 10 Jan 23

Hello all, It has been a while since I posted anything. Yesterday, I had my follow up with my Dr (follow up for lowering bp meds,). Anyway, she said something that I have NEVER her of a Dr saying to a patient.

She said “Stop losing weight”, “you are where you should be for your frame”. So, I guess my weight loss journey has come to an end. 236 pounds it is. I feel like I accomplished a major hurdle. From 363 lbs to 236 pounds (this does not account for the 20+ pounds I lost before FS)

I want to thank you all, for being there when I need a swift kick in the pants to stay the course.
I will NOT return to my former self. All the old clothing is gone.

Still think, the final 6 lbs will go away naturally when the excess skin shrinks away.

Weight loss CAN be done, without surgery, pills and FAD diets. Time will tell if I can keep it off !!!

Congratulations on your great success. Your bio gives no hint of age, height. IF you have seriously considered this weight loss journey as a lifestyle change and not a diet, you should do fine. Continue a more active lifestyle, portion control, moderation, strength training to help with continued body remodeling. Do not expect all the loose skin to melt away— don’t set yourself up for unrealistic expectations. That is where building and toning your muscles help. Not talking pumping iron, bodybuilder stuff, unless that is something you really want to do, but not sustainable for the majority because there is after all, a life to be lived. I also suggest that you stay involved with the FS appt., weigh and track what you eat. After a time it is just second nature and you don’t even think about it. I’m not a fanatic about it but just keeping those ballpark numbers has helped me stay an even course for many, many years. Hope to still see you here in the future.

Good morning. A little about me 59.5yo, (60 in June) 6’3” tall. Retired 2 years ago, fairly active since this all started( and since retirement).. I ride a bike 2-3x per week (13-15 miles or about 60 min). On bad weather days, we purchased the beast (rouge echo), The beast flat kicks me in the teeth. Also do a little hiking and walking the dogs. I was very dedicated to this weight loss, due to BP causing an eye injury (now getting monthly steroid injections to correct) . Cut out all sugars (except in fruits), no soda, no alcohol, and avoid pasta (don’t really care for pasta anyway) and limit the rice to very rare occasions. We substitute the rice with cauliflower rice mix. This works for me as I love veggies. Also prefer chicken and fish over beef. Long term, with my fingers crossed…. I shall keep it awayf

I think you need a 2nd opinion from a different Dr. 236 lbs is not a healthy weight.

Personally I would keep going until I was off the BP meds, and my waistline measured in the “safe zone” (less than 35” for men). Getting out of the obesity range and into the overweight range is applaud worthy though 👏🏼👍

You're doing great and will slowly decide exactly where you want to be. Your plan is great. I have yo yo dieted all my life and maintenance is harder for me than dieting but I have never been really heavy. Enjoy your lower weight but my idea is to not take it for granted. If you start gaining my advise is to nip it in the bud. By the way, when I only weighed 104 a couple of years ago I still need BP meds so JustBananas advise wouldn't work for me. Your plan is so good if you can stick with it: no sugar or high carbs and exercising, you will continue being a winner. Congratulations.

Thank you snowwhite. HB is hereditary in some people. I may NEVER come off of them. I am however now taking the lowest dose of meds. Justbabanas and Maryann TA, I would like to know where you came up with this information. BMI calculators I have, calculates me in a healthy range

Pawpo— I think some folks are not considering your height.

BMI Calculator: https://www.health.harvard.edu/diet-and-weight-loss/bmi-calculator And for your your waist size: https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/obesity-prevention-source/obesity-definition/abdominal-obesity/

My brother is 6'2" and has a 32" waist. He is fit and healthy, exercises daily, 49 years old, and weighs approximately 165-170. So yes, the height was taken into consideration.
