Today I started my diet again after being sick for a long time. I gained over 50 pounds while taking Prednisone, and now it's time to get back on track. It's going to be a struggle, but I plan to take it one day at a time. :-)

Prednisone makes you gain weight??? I didn't know that.

Yes it does. I didn't have an appetite, but I still gained weight. Prednisone causes you to have an increased appetite. It also causes the body to swell - it's a steroid (not the typical steroids athletes use). The medication caused my body to swell, and I had a moon-pie face (one of the side effects).

That's good info to know. My 14yo has asthma and spends most of the winter on prednisone and has gained weight. This is good to know - although not sure what we can do about it. It's about the only medicine out there that really helps when he gets it bad.

That's true. I had to take Prednisone because I had been suffering with severe headaches since 2007, and when I started experiencing nausea and vomiting, an MRI was done in January which revealed that I had swelling on my brain (neurosarcoidosis). I had to take the meds. for a few months, and I suffered terribly! I have 2 herniated discs in my lower back, so the more weight I gained, the more severe lower back pain I experienced! I still suffer with the back pain, but PRAISE GOD, the swelling on my brain is GONE!!! :-) I know that I won't suffer as much once I lose all this weight!! Do you live in an area where baby trees grow? There's truth in the story that if you line your child alongside a baby tree and mark your child's height, when the tree grows, your child will grow out of the asthma. I can testify to that because my sister and brother (twins) had a sad childhood because they couldn't participate in sports or go outside during allergy season due to severe asthma. My mother did the above, and sure enough, they grew out of it. They both are 43 years old now, and haven't experienced any asthma symptoms in over 25 years. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!!! :-)
