_KC's Journal, 28 Feb 22

I am loving the feedback you all are giving me on these random thoughts I keep logging. Today's complaint is: I AM SO BLOATED. I am pretty sure it's the carbonation from the Diet Dr. Pepper I drink non-stop all day every day, and if I could just quit, my body would be happier for it... and my friend will stop telling me all of the dangers of aspartame.

My daughter is in Intro to Psych in college, she was reading the chapter on addictions and blurted out that I was right, Soda is an addiction. I told her I don't make sh*t up. But in all reality, I do make sh*t up all the time as a fiction writer. I just also do a lot of reading and researching and happen to know some things. Like, how it was really easy for me to give up cigarettes, and how every time I get a craving for one I feel satisfied after drinking Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar.

My goal this week is to drink more water. Switch my soda addiction to coffee/water instead. I am also going to push myself to work out more this week than I ever have this year.

I had the same issue... personally I found that replacing one bottle/can of soda with a bottle of water at a time, cutting back instead of completely restricting myself, was a huge help. Now, I have one bottle roughly every few days or so, or more than one for certain special occasions, otherwise its only water for me.

I stopped all carbonation years ago. I will have a ginger ale if I’m nauseous. I lost about 25 lbs. I had stopped eating red meat ( now maybe once a year) and pork( bacon once a week) as heart attack, and stroke run in my family. My dr said no zero calorie sweetener as it’s so bad for you even the natural. Real sugar is easier on our bodies. I am autoimmune and if I eat sweets, my body tells me. I’m a sugar addict. My dr said eat it at least 3 times a week or I’ll binge. She is so right! I’ve never felt better and at 64, my labs are all fantastic! I’ll take it. Best wishes on your journey! Keep writing! I love to read. 💯

I had the same thing. I switched to LaCroix to help. Still not the same taste but had the fizz so I gave up taste but not the fizz at first. I also found some flavors are better than others.

I forgot to say all of my drs say soda destroys your immune system. Makes sense as I have at least 8 and I’m the generation that grew up on soda.

Agree and best wishes on quitting smoking. That was the hardest thing for me even though I didn’t smoke long. It takes a while to develop a taste gif water, but you can add flavoring. I drink a gallon to a gallon and a half of water daily. It took a bit, but I love it. I drink maybe 6 sodas a year. Good luck!

I found using a mint or candy with the same sugar helped me kick my diet coke habit..12 pack plus a day.

Thank you so much everyone for your comments and support, I appreciate it. Thank you @Mimi Campbell, that is what I am starting to do too - cut back by drinking water and good for you. @Oceanladyjulia, congratulations on losing 25lbs and having fantastic labs, thats awesome news. @Pink Oma, I like the coconut flavored LaCroix but I miss the sweet taste. At least I don't slam them and drink 6 in one sitting like I do soda. @DJinVegas, that's so true. The same with food. We can't just stop eating. @ramblemanje - you're lucky you don't get bloated. Do you ever go to buy yours and its sold out? That happens where I live often. @ystrel -YES! I love that idea. Osteoporosis doesn't scare me as much as getting and staying fat does so Im going to call it fat in a can. I was able to trick myself into thinking cookies tasted like sawdust to avoid eating them and that worked for many years. @Meworking - what a great idea. What I think is happening is my teeth are starting to hurt and that's why I quit drinking soda last time was to avoid the dentist. I'm pretty sure this is the end of the line for me. If I crave sweets - I will go brush my teeth.

I do love it 😍 but I also have had to cut it out. Monthly now, if that.

Yes it’s often out of stock so when it’s in, I stock up. My fall back is Pepsi zero and diet Dr Pepper. Cherry Coke Zero is my 4th place pick. Oh I gotta say I’m strangely addicted to Sunkist zero now! It’s like a desert beverage!
