SPRING RECOMP 2021 - DAY 34 REST DAY
For reasons unclear, Pop decides the replacement bath lady is a bridge too far, spontaneously grows a pair, and refuses to bathe. Also a genius, bath lady, in a lovely yet ferocious English/patois mix, is on about geriatric defiance and calls the agency, mid-negotiations, to report. Unable to properly behold the unfolding farce due to the sinus oozing from my left eye, and possessed of even less than my characteristically low patience, I am far from my gentle best. Somehow the muddle forward is achieved. The highlight was their bath interaction, echoing throughout the house, inspired by her apparent inability to decipher the riddle of the hot water tap. I did not intervene. Who am I to question the wisdom of the karmic wheel?
Off diet, cause feed a cold. Lost track of the tacos. Somewhere between 2800k and 3500k all in. Did, barely, refrain from a midnight ice cream run.
Snorkler, benadryl, Flonase, and some other shit I can't remember in full effect. Mad mad dreams. Ex wife and two football players saw fit to lecture me on my diet. Too much meat, I am told. And more eggs. But I had an omelet for breakfast, I protest. Choline. Why am I arguing with these people? Not even gonna venture a guess as to a Jungian interpretation of that psychic detritus...
Wide awake at 0200, and, shockingly, momentarily no longer a mouth breather with an ice pick stuck in my left cornea. So progress!
Taking another rest day. Hopefully one more will get me mostly right. Chores and gonna make that spano I punted on last weekend.
Onward.
Let's go!

@jb.Who knew!?! I did unintentionally have some dragon fruit. Not partial to fruit necessarily, but that was one exotic sexy fruit sitting on that store shelf and super expensive, so I knew it had to be good!

The vitamin C probably helped the cold, yeah? And I've been known to grab an unusual fruit before - just because. Have to Google how to cut it when I get home. Papayas the size of footballs are another fun one.

Feel better, JP! Mexican street tacos, queso, scrambled eggs and OJ is my prescription for a bad cold.

Rage Against the Machine and Fatsecret are two things that I never expected to intersect, ever. Yet, somehow, it works.

Psychic detritus - beautiful! Write a novel, I'll buy it. I was reminded of the witty narratives voiced by Archie Goodwin in the Nero Wolfe novels. I feel like I could pitch you random words or phrases to work into your next post and you could do it effortlessly. Give it a shot - flotsam and jetsam, comfortably numb, somnambulant septuagenarian - go. Also, feel better and get back to crushing it.

@gastro Appreciate the kind words. It's a considerable leap from occasional turn of phrase to Infinite Jest. Now what do I do with my three pounds of leftover leek greens?

@jb I just whacked it in half with a chef's knife and went to town with a spoon. No seeds to clean or anything. I'm nursing a decent wine buzz, but I don't think it's hyperbole to say that it may be the most beautiful thing I have eaten straight from the plant.

JimmieP, I save leek greens, celery stumps and cilantro stems to percolate in the pressure cooker when making a batch of beans from dry. still, 3 lbs is a lot. Use what you can in the pressure cooker, steep the rest in boiling salted water, cool, decant the liquor and snort it through your snorkeler/neti pot hybrid. 2 birds, 1 stone.

Thanks all. Settled on leek soubise. Not sure why I didn't think of that in the first place...

I boil leek greens in a big pot with carrots and celery and then just drink mugs of it like a tea (good hot or at room temperature). Add some herbs & salt to the pot and it becomes a great broth for risotto or pasta or anything, really.

@katsolo anytime I see the word vichyssoise, I remember that scene from The Mask where Stanley tells Tina he wants to "dip his ladle in her vichyssoise" while in that super cheesy Frenchman getup. That will never NOT be funny.

OMG, I'd forgotten that scene. funny movie. due for a fresh view. 🤣🤣🤣

Dryer is fixed. $120 vs. $1000 + for replacing. Life is good.
