Love dropping multiple pounds at a time. Stay focused and motivated. Hard work 💪🏼 pays off for sure. #tunnelvision One thing I can't stand about this journey is how sad family members feel because I can't eat their type of crap foods that they eat. So I get upset and say, " you should feel sadder for me to die this young because of my weight. Not sad because I am going through a life change and re educating myself on how to eat and when to eat." It's sad to know how many people in my family have forgotten the meaning of happiness and have put food as their means of happiness. Don't confuse eating to survive, versus eating to feel indulged the food that got you this huge. Nowadays we have relationships with our foods and that's not right.

Eh, I say you can have a balance. Food is awesome, no need to go all in on shunning good food. I get you, I used to be like that but was set free when I discovered you can have anything in moderation. Focus on healthier meals and protein intake, for sure, but no need to be so strict. I believe it will only set you up for failure. You do you though, I hope it works out man!

Interesting, though I'd say it's any food in itself that makes us put on weight, it's when we we eat far more than we need for our lifestyle and are constantly in a calorie surplus. I certainly don't eat just to survive, enjoy food, and have still lost weight ;) It doesn't have to be either or. Back when it was like that for me, I was extremely unhappy and amazingly, fatter, lol. Anyway, your family members won't pity you if they see you seem pleased with your life and choices.

I meant *it's NOT any food in itself

I still enjoy eating good food; I am just careful about portions and quality versus quantity now. Good job!

So true. I always see a let down on people’s faces when I say I don’t eat that any longer. It’s like I am refusing to like them. It’s so personal

You are doing great on your journey and have much hard work ahead of you. I support your thinking about food and don't encourage you to fall victim to pressure from family and friends or other FS members. Your statement sums up pretty much my resolve over the past few years. Living a healthy life is about learning what functional fitness is over extreme physical workouts. Accepting that the reason we need to eat is for nutrition and energy to sustain our bodies is first and without it we would die. So fuel your body with nutritionally sound foods first and leave that piece of cake or dessert for occasions like birthdays, holidays and celebrations. You seem happy with your decision and there is no reason it can't work for you. For others maybe they had a different experience but that was their journey not yours ! If you are not a man of the kitchen put on your tool belt and ramp up those cooking skills. Knowing how to prepare healthy meals at home gets you closer to the goal post. Keep on keeping on !!

Good for you brother! I hope your family becomes more supportive because it's so much easier if you're working as a team. Without the help of my best friend & wife I wouldn't be here. You made a great point as well about eating. Before changing my life I was suffering with some depression and during that time food became my go to. I wasn't eating to live. I was living to eat! That wasn't a plan meant for long term success. Stay strong and continue changing your future & extending your life!

You all are amazing! Thanks for the support. I enjoy good foods as well. However, if eating the wrong foods got me to 505 lbs, then I have to change what I eat and how much of it I eat. During this journey, I can only eat what's recommended. So I have small portions and a little bit of every food group. I weigh in every day and so far I average about 1.5 lbs per day. It's been 36 days so far. Started using this app when I weighed 463. I'm still a long ways away but committed and determined to reach this FS Goal of 100 lbs. Even though I am only 3 lbs.from reaching my overall goal of 100 lbs. Thank you all for taking the time to express your opinions and open up about your personal experience. God bless you all!

I hope your journey to better health and weight loss continue being successful. It certainly wasn't my intention to discourage or recommend any extreme workout (?), rather, just offering the perspective that moderation is an option and might make it easier to enjoy family gatherings/celebrations. Great job already.

Not just the wrong foods but tooooo much of any food and too little physical activity.

You have done a great job getting where you are. Are you under the care of a doctor who follows your blood work and condition of your heart.

God Bless you too ! From your last comment it sounds like you may be working with a dietician/nutritionist on portion sizes, food groups and recommended foods. A "man of your size" you should always work with health professionals when making a life style change. Whether it is about changing eating habits or adding physical activity into your life. Like Kenna asked someone should be monitoring your health. Keep on keeping on !
