OK I may have to go on the starvation diet to try to keep heating my house for the rest of the winter. Today I went to pay the bill for my last propane delivery. I had gotten about 275 gallons of propane at $2.199 gal on December 16th. Well I am down to about 35% in my tank so I requested more propane be delivered. Cost today $4.99 GAL down from $5.29 gal Friday. I had heard about the shortage and was expecting about $3 gal. They will only bring me 200 gallons because there is too much of a shortage this year. I used that entire 275 gallons from December in 5 weeks. That will more than use up my budgeted amount for heating for the rest of the winter. Guess I will have to work out and then climb into bed to stay warm. The heat was turned down to 65 degrees at my house since my daughter is home from school. It will have to go down to 62 degrees while we sleep. This is going to suck...we have winter until the end of March for sure in Minnesota.

Have you tried applying for heat assistance? I know that it's not ideal, but the program was created to help people in this sort of situation. No one wants to see you without heat for the winter. http://mn.gov/commerce/energy/consumers/Heating-Assistance/ that website has more information on the program and how you can apply if you choose to. Stay warm!

I should count my blessings that living in the desert, it doesn't get cold here and we are about to have solar installed to help offset the outrageous A/C bills for the 120 day summers here. Sorry it's so cold. Hoping for an end to the cold sooner than later.

It's $4.50 a gallon here in Oklahoma. :( It was $2.45 a short month ago. I feel your pain. I am hoping we can stretch ours until it goes down some.

The tank we have outside holds about 600 gallons I would guess. When we went from 40% to 80% it took 275 gallons. Having another tank that size isn't feasible and you can't have it too full for when the temps rise. The line goes from the tank directly to our forced air furnace. It isn't like we can go without heat...you have to keep pipes from freezing. I am just upset that it spiked soooo much is such a short amount of time. Someone is making a mint on this stuff. Mishafan I don't think we would qualify for assistance...we probably make too much. There are others that are going to be far worse off than we are I am afraid! Maybe I should check though...

Checked the income guidelines...we do not qualify for assistance...we are on our own...just like our children were when it came to college help too. Make too much for help...but not enough to be able to pay for it. Story of my life...

mrsmole...I would really like about 50 degree days right now...I don't know if I could handle the 120 degree days. Course we have lots of lakes here to jump into when it gets hot!

It is what it is...just not the stress that I want to deal with right now. Then hubby tells me that his vehicle is acting up too...really not what we needed. When it rains it pours or in this case when it freezes this deep there is no relief in sight. That Groundhog better see it's shadow!

Guess I should stop complaining about our weather. We heat with natural gas - my budget for the whole year, which includes air conditioning in the summer works out to $142.00 per month for 12 months. I never had a clue that you could pay so much to heat your home! The thoughts are with you - stay warm!

Still haven't recieved my delivery of propane. I heard last night that it is down to $3 something per gallon now. As the governor of Minnesota declared a state of emergency and called in the national guard to help increase delivery of propane to Minnesota. Stands to reason that if the supply is bigger the price should go down. Hope I am charged the lower amount when the propane finally shows up. Today new twist to the drama. Woke up this morning to my house being 58 degrees. The central furnace quick working. Had to call in repair person. They worked on it for about an hour and got it functioning...it still needs another fix...but that can wait until Monday when the labor rates drop to $85 an hour instead of the $125 hr it was today. Like I mentioned...when it rains it pours...bills bills bills...I hate my life right now....
