abbadabba's Journal, 03 Jan 11

Ah, Monday! I am at work, with one hour left before I can go home and tend to my daughters! The torture of high-maintenance children, I am afraid.

Once again, going to stay on track and enter all food. Does anyone have the MY DIET app on their phone? I also have to get a new phone, and was wondering which would work well (easy, uncomplicated). Iphone? Blackberry? What do you think?

This year I commit myself to tracking! To a limit of 1250 calories a day. To exercise minimum 4 days a week, including 2 sessions of weight lifting to build muscle. To a selfish lifestyle where me and my health are top priority, meaning not finishing off candies and cookies that other people are trying to get rid of, first thing!

Good living, everyone, and I hope you are enjoying your Monday!

Hey abba you already know that I am having a great day. Sounds like you have a very good plan. We need to take care of ourselves so we can take care of others......Bren

Hi, I haven't checked on your journal in a few days and I've missed so much! Happy New Year, and congrats on your new relationship with Woody. He sounds lovely. Sometimes it better if the men aren't as pretty as us; then no competition. I do hope it works out for you. You seem to have quite a lot in common, education, good jobs, and you both love to dance. Again, wishing you the best in this, and good luck with your continued weight loss efforts.

I have Calorie Counter app on my DroidX and love both of them! the smart phones always seem to require at least a little bit of a learning curve, but we're smart too so it's not terrible. :) I love your commitment to "a selfish lifestyle where me and my health are top priority." I take it to mean much more than just finishing other people's food. I think it's a great way...and not SELFISH in any negative sense...to look at what you--we--are doing in our lives and why.

I have an iPhone and I use the FatSecret app. It's not great but you can enter food and get your calories. The old version though doesn't hook into the full site (no journal comments, no buddies) but it does sync with your account here. My SIL really loves the Edibles iphone app. I checked it out but it looks time consuming as I'll have to enter all my foods all over again. At least with the Fat Secret app it keeps track of all the foods I've eaten and logged online in the past. (Right now the app is under construction. They just did some major work to it--but they warn not to update till the new version is ready.) Happy New Year!

And bravo on your goals! Sometimes being "selfish" is the best thing you can do. I worry too about hurting people's feelings but sometimes I have to learn how to put me first.

I should say the FatSecret app is "not perfect." But, as I said, it does link with your online account (syncs all the food and weight entries). And it's easy. In general I loooove my iPhone. I have another app that is really pretty awesome called Walkometer--it tracks walks using GPS and spits out info and saves it to your calendar. Super simple. The new improved Fat Secret app sounds like it'll be much improved once they get it up and running.

One more, I promise: At&T website has refurbished iphones for very good deals. $29 for the 3Gs phone.
