Hey all!
I’ve started my journey this week when I found this App.
This is great!!!
My biggest challenge is Carbs.
Any advice???
I don’t know if I can or if I should cut them out all together, but does anyone have advice how to reduce and some healthy recipes or what to buy? Thanks!!!
Love reading and seeing everyone’s pics and journeys. 💙💜

Welcome. This is a great place. Just keep looking around and pick up some ideas. You do not have to cut carbs if you do not want to. I have cut them as they stimulate over eating for me but other people just watch their calories and food totals. Generally choosing some whole foods rather than processed foods will help you with carb totals. Avoiding added sugar products as much as you can and not drink sugar drinks are good. I build my meals around the proteins to keep my carbs very low. So breakfast may be eggs and bacon but no toast. Supper may be meat and veggies but no carb like rice or pasta. You got this!!

Honestly what worked for me was cutting sugar and counting my calorie intake. Also I started to take fiber pills because my diet wasn’t giving me enough fiber. I do everything sugar free. I try to get low carb wraps and bread. I also replaced breakfast with smoothies in the morning sometimes. Because I tend not to eat breakfast but skipping meals is a BIG NO. So I would do some veggie and fruit mixes and omg delicious! I could never finish it because it fills me up. I got stuck a couple times with my weight. I even had gained over a pound while busting my ass working out but look at me now 💪🏻 Remember one day at a time. You got this!!

Carbs are my weakness too. I recommend getting Xtreme wellness tortillas (50 kcal), bagel thins (110 kcal), and Thomas' Light Multigrain English Muffins (100 kcal), Veggie Straws, etc. I find it is best to monitor what my calorie intake and exercise. Everything is better in moderation. You could eat smaller portions of carbs or look for lower calorie options so you still get to enjoy your meal. I find that if I don't treat myself to some carbs or dessert once in a while, I am more likely to binge eat just because I crave the delicious food. I just need to make sure if I do this that I make sure I had healthier and lower calorie meals that day.

I love carbs too.. and for me I feel I would fail to cut my carbs too low.. so we could follow the app guidelines.. it does help us to lean toward better choices of lower carbs.. 🤗

Carbs are also my nemesis... I love them but they are not kind to me. I have found that, for me, finding lower carb/lower calorie food s that can act as a substitute for the “bad” version has been key for me. Some of my common substitutions: Rice: riced cauliflower Spaghetti: Pasta Zero Pasta: Banza Chickpea pasta, Veggie Made Lentil Pasta (in freezer aisle) Potato: Riced cauliflower, riced squash, beets, mashed cauliflower Bread: either no bread at all, (lettuce is a good sub) or less bread. I eat open faced sandwiches with only 1 slice. I also like Pepperidge Farm Very Thin bread and Natures Own Life Bread.

I forgot to add that I use premodern cauliflower pizza crust for pizza, quiche, and pie (yep, I made a pumpkin pie with it and it was SO good).

I think cutting anything out 100% is hard to sustain. Substitutions are a good idea.

I’m overwhelmed with all of your kind responses and very beneficial advice!!! Wondering, because I have never had cauliflower as a crust etc,,, I hate cooked meaning boiled cauliflower, however I do not mind Rockhall flour. Does it taste like raw cauliflower? Or cooked. Because if it’s cooked I’m not gonna be able to eat it 😞

That should say: I don’t mind raw cauliflower

Carbs are my downfall so I try to limit them to the carbs that come from vegetables. My problem is that if I eat too many carbs, then ALL I WANT IS CARBS. I know this is me and it is my problem so you'll have to figure out where to draw the line. Once I get into eating more vegis, it becomes part of my routine. Can't claim that I crave them but my body does well with them and I feel better so I'm trying to stick with it.

The statement," the more carbs I eat, the more carbs I want", is absolutely true! (unfortunately) Reach for some kind of protien when u crave carbs. It works! Also, when you eat something make yourself wait 30 min b4 you reach for something else..if you eat carbs, veggies are great. Cucumbers and peppers are great snack foods. Prep them so they are readily available. God luck in your healthy journey!💜👍

I don't like to say that I am cutting anything out of my diet, it seems so negative. I look at my overall macros: fat, carbs and protein. Right now I am eating 100 g carbs (vegetables, fruit and whole grain options); 109 g protein; and 46 g fat. I concentrate on getting the protein amount and I weigh everything! May 23rd I weighted 138 and as of June 26th I weigh 127.

Roasting fresh cauliflower with garlic, turmeric and olive oil is the best! I also don't buy the premade cauliflower crusts. I just slice a head of cauliflower, oil it, roast it and then put my pizza toppings on and rebake it.

Welcome! I hope you enjoy this app as much as most people on here. It's a very supportive community and everybody has different ways of eating and different ideas. Many years ago a much older woman told me to up the water, and cut out the whites; sugar, flour, rice, potatoes, breads, & pastas. Nowadays they have substitutions for all of those. I still cut out all my processed whites and stick with things that are pure and unrefined. Simple meat or fish, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, no packaged or canned foods. If you can eat very simply you will do well. many recipes on YouTube for Keto. Also on Pinterest.

@crystal I'm "borrowing" your tip on roasting cauliflower and putting on pizza toppings. I hate making cauliflower crust..to much work! Thanks for tips! We follow about same on protien/carb/fat ratio. I am slightly lower in fats.(30-35 grams)

Welcome!! I've been working with a registered dietitian who would say you should NOT try to cut out carbs! Your body will use those to function. For example, she wants 44% of my intake to be carbs, but everyone is different based on activity level. Try to get those from whole foods and slowly take processed foods out of your diet, like many others are saying. Hope that helps!!

I do CICO, so there are no food restrictions as long as I fit them into my RDI (recommended daily intake). Night before last I had cookies and last night I had toast. Sometimes it takes a while to find out what works for you. Good luck on your journey. 🌈

Calories are what matter. Just get your carbs from more filling healthier options like fruit.
