I too would pick it along rail tracks and the side of the road. I have about 4-5 stalks that come up in my back yard yearly. Wish more would come up.

In Idaho it grew up in the wire fences as weeds in great clumps. My wife and I would stop and cut the whole bunch to the ground, then water it and come back 3 or 4 days later and it would be 4 or 5 inches tall to harvest.
