Multiplicity1's Journal, 08 Aug 10

I'm sitting here temporarily avoiding doing my DVD exercises. I tried doing a Jillian Michaels DVD and I couldn't do the first three warm up exercises. One of them was jumping an imaginary rope and my stomach was bouncing up and down horribly and painfully so I couldn't do it. I need to get rid of some more of that stomach before I can do that DVD. I will go back to my Kathy Smith Weight loss tape today. I ordered some Richard Simmons Dancing to the Oldies DVD's the other day. I know he has a lot of really large people doing his exercises on the DVD's with him so I think they will be doable for me.
I am very frustrated because I didn't lose any weight this am and I am no closer to 199. One of my buddies on Atkins.com says a watched pot never boils and she is probably right. I only lost .7 of a lb. this week and I believe it is because I did not get my veggies in properly. Plus I did not drink enough water this week either. Maybe I should just stop weighing every day. But then I won't know exactly when I get under 199 (if I ever make it!) I have not been good about planning my meals properly for a while and that affects getting all my veggies in.
My husband is doing OK today and we both are calmer about his health today. I ordered a healing meditation tape for him to listen to in order to help his body get stronger and healthier.
I went to church this morning and that was an enjoyable experience. The prayer and meditation part of the service always helps me. They had a potluck today but we didn't stay. Most of the food was stuff we couldn't eat including a cherry cobbler that looked fabulous. They did have a vegetable dish, some ham and some watermelon we could have eaten. Next month we may try to go but we will bring food we can eat with us.
I haven't decided whether to quit my committee or not. I need to discuss it with my sponsor. I really just want to be done with being upset about this situation.
Well I've goofed off long enough I need to go exercise now. Have a great day! Well I made it through 16 minutes before I got so tired I was stumbling all over myself. I am also going for a 45 min. walk today.

I sympathize with the belly feeling doing exercise. The main thing is to pick something you enjoy doing...dance is fantastic....I like yoga too because it helps with flexibility and strength and it's not so hard on the joints...but I am dismal at doing stuff alone...I need group support. Find out what pushes your buttons in a good way with exercise!

Do you have a wii? I find the exercises on there are great and not too strenuous and very little bouncing around. I can't wait till my belly stops hanging and slapping ROFL!

Good job on the exercise. I just have to laugh at myself when I try to follow a new exercise DVD. Thank goodness we get a little more familiar with the moves and have a little more endurance after a while.

Andrea, you could try wearing dedicated workout clothes, too. The leggings/yoga pants and the super elastic type tops have a lot of spandex in them which helps hold it all together for you as you start losing! And a VERY supportive bra underneath, regardless of whether it has a built in bra or not (and it should). Jillian's tough, but the truth is, she has people who weigh twice what you do doing those exercises. Take it slow, work on form and think about that Slim in 6, too. NOTHING at all like Jillian's, but it also doesn't burn lots of calories like hers do, either. But still, a GREAT workout, especially if you don't want a lot of bouncing around. At least you're putting them in and starting. You WILL have to "push through it", especially at the beginning of any exercise routine. Good luck. You will be AMAZED at the results you'll get with working out. Glad to hear your husband is doing better :) Oh, I used to work out to Sweatin' to the Oldies all the time! Fun exercise, for the most part! You will sweat, but that's the point! You have to in order to burn calories... Good luck!

Personally, I don't like jumping rope for some reason. As a kid, I was never good at it. You seem to be focusing on the exercise aspects of your health though and doing a terrific job of it. Keep it up Andrea!

I'm gonna have to look for the Sweatin' Oldies: got a new cardio DVD with a dance routine "supplement" and I hated it. I couldn't even keep up with the player on half speed: these young things' bodies go places I never knew existed! _____________ Good advice re. workout the wardrobe: it is easier without our less than firm bits trying to keep up, and slapping the rest of us on the return. It is really hard to start, but RedWine is correct: it does get easier, truly.
