Per Google: This meaning of the Spanish word "taco" is a Mexican innovation, but in other dialects "taco" is used to mean "wedge; wad, plug; billiard cue; blowpipe; ramrod; short, stocky person; [or] short, thick piece of wood."

In Mexican restaurants, I see "soft-shell tacos" and just plain "tacos." My question is: How is a soft-shell taco different from a burrito??

Maybe it is because of the shape? I think that everything would fall and I would have to eat it with a fork and knife. The only tacos I had every seen came in a box with a hard shell and with a terrible sauce. I never tried it again. I see from the pictures that people post that it could be good without the sauce that came in the box of course!

Burritos are generally a filling in a folded flour tortilla. A Taco is generally a corn tortilla folded in half with a filling; it can be soft shell (traditional in Mexico) or hard shell (more common in USA).
