I was reminiscent today while at the pool— swimming back and forth for 2 hours sometimes gives me an opportunity to think. Others not so much because I am just zoned and barely aware of the amount of time that passes. Today I was thinking about an old Marine Corp saying: When faced with combat the first thing to go is usually your plan. That’s where repetition, reinforcement, HABIT come in. You follow your plan because that is what you do. Any weight loss program is the same way. When faced with dietary choices (combat) habit will carry you much further than motivation.

I agree. I don't have the military training but last when when offered pancakes & potato casserole for breakfast I immediately passed and asked for scrambled eggs. No thought or deliberation. No rationalizing 'hey, you're on a vacay, live it up.' Later I reflected 'what...? I coulda had pancakes and passed?'
