Llamapalooza53's Journal, 27 Mar 19

I’ve been walking every day and it’s getting so much easier. I have a 5 lbs Maltese and a ShihTzu who probably weighs 18 lbs. The ShihTzu wants to stop to sniff every pebble and pee on every rock. So it’s a little bit hard to get my respiration up but I do achieve that breathing harder exertion thing happening. I do love taking those little knuckleheads though because they get so so so excited. I put my iPhone in my pocket and it counts my steps. I feel like my head is totally into the diet mode, the no carbs mode, the exercise mode, the #ketolife mode. Still I feel stalled. Dang. I raised my daily caloric intake from 1200 to 1400. I’ll see what happens.

It is a good experiment eating a little bit more.

@Llamapalooza, my cockapoo wants to sniff every interesting spot and will only go so far and then he lays down -- even it It's in the middle of the street! A stubborn stream a mile wide; definitely not an exercise partner! It sounds like you're doing all the right things. The weight will come off!

And still, the scale does not move. I saw a doctor today to see if I qualified for a medical research program. My blood pressure was, once again, very high. The diastolic is staying high. It was 167/110. Time to go back to my nephrologist I think. My kidneys are functioning at 45% which is why I see the nephrologist. But my regular doc says she can handle my care. Uh, I need someone pay ATTENTION to my damned blood pressure! I’m going off my antidepressants and anti anxiety meds, one at a time. I want to know what it feels like just to be med-free. And my BP might come down once I’m off some of this stuff. I’m not doing it on my own, no worries. Anyway I talked to this doc about keto and she said it’s really important to eat veggies. I’m just not a veggie person but I’m looking up keto recipes for the veggies I don’t like. She thought that would help the scale move. Went to fruit/veggie market and stocked up. Nice looking asparagus and green beans. We’ll see.

@Llamapalooza, I can sympathize! I have a close friend, age 63, whose BP is sky-high, too. The anti-hypertensive meds she's tried interfere with her anti-convulsant medication, so she's between a rock and a hard place. Elevated can certainly affect renal health, so I think you're wise to see your nephrologist for kidney issues. (I do that, too. Mine says that I have "age-related loss of function" but no diabetic damage, thank God.)

I have been on anti-hypertensive meds for years and, in the last few years, stopped taking Wellbutrin and BuSpar (for depression and anxiety, respectively). Discontinuing them did not improve my hypertension, but weight loss of just 15 pounds allowed me to stop taking verapamil and cut the dosage of lisinopril from 40 to 10mg/day. "They say" that eating high-fiber, low-carb, low-calorie vegetables might help both your BP and your weight. It's good that you're pursuing all the avenues you can.
