Multiplicity1's Journal, 30 Apr 10

I was just getting ready to post my journal entry and I was feeling kind of down today and not like doing anything I needed to do like go walking or clean off the table for the TV which will play my exercise DVD's. I had decided to make a gratitude list some of which I will share with you and then I got a post from a friend about some very difficult issues she is dealing with and I realized again that my issues and problems are very small and insignificant today. I am grateful for this WOE which has resulted in me losing 30 lbs. and getting off my diabetic and some of my blood pressure meds. I am very grateful for my husband who is a wonderful man who works hard, does lots of chores at home including all the cooking, is loyal, loving and supportive. I am grateful for my health which at the moment is very good. I am grateful for my 19 yr. old daughter who did very well in college this semester and still enjoys spending time with her parents. I am grateful for my other daughter who is in recovery and settling down after a few rough years and for my wonderful grandsons. I am grateful for my many wonderful friends who would do anything for me at a moment's notice and for my online friends who are always so positive and funny and informative and supportive. I am grateful my husband has a job and we have a good place to live and our dog is still alive and doing well. I am grateful for our other pets who bring so much joy and love into our lives. I am grateful for this website that makes staying on Atkins so much easier and fun. I am grateful I live in a free country. And I am grateful that no matter what God has my back and is always there watching over me and loving me. Now with all that said I will go on with my day with a happier attitude and the intention to do what I need to to make this exercise and food plan a permanent way of life. I am going to go back and look at my past journal entries to see the last Beck Diet Solution task I posted then I will post another one.

The Beck Diet Solution task for the day is to get ready to weigh in. The author discusses how important it is to weigh in every week because the weekly weigh-ins "allow you to celebrate and build up your confidence when you've lost weight...They keep you honest if you've gained weight...They help you stay committed to the program." She also recommends keeping your weekly weight on a weight loss graph which we are lucky to have on this site. Dr. Beck says we should use "the scale as an information tool that provides data you can use to guide your eating". She says "when you weigh yourself, use the number on the scale as a guide to decide whether you should keep doing what you are doing or make some changes" not as a tool to beat yourself up. She discusses why it is important to face our fear of the scales even on those weeks we might have gained so we have accurate data to make our food choices.

I think everything should make a list like that and keep it w/ them. Look at it when you're feeling down and it'll put you in a good mood!! The day before I weigh-in is my prepare day. I usually eat lighter. lol I use to miss my weigh-in days b/c I didn't like the idea of seeing the scale up. Now, I take the good with the bad. It does keep you honest with yourself. :)

Wow, I agree Keli, Soul searching seems to be the issue of the week. I guess in perspective, my problems are minor to some. I am gratful for many things, and sometimes I think the troubles always seem to hide the good things in life.
