Steven Anthony's Journal, 04 Jun 18

Day 49 of my 90-day program was the 3rd day of my 72 hr fast. The third day is always the hardest for me, in that I actually do get hungry. I was a little dizzy, but not as much as in the past. I drank lots of water with electrolytes. The last 6 hrs before bedtime, I just kept telling myself "you only have to make it until bedtime, then you can eat in the morning. Of course, I'm up now having coffee and will not eat until after my walk and I'm at work.

I did not walk all weekend, that's weird for me, but I just did not want to face the crowds. In a way, I'm glad I stayed home and rested, it made the fast easier. I want to walk 5 miles each day this week. Feeling pretty fantastic my determination did not falter, only a few hard moments but I pushed through.

Something I learned over the last six weeks: Logging my food each day really makes a huge difference in my overall weight loss. I decide how many calories I want to eat each day, then I click on things I want to eat (keto foods) and I add or delete until I feel I will have enough volume, the correct macros, and stay around the calories I set. Some days, I actually eat less without being hungry. Other days, I just accept a small amount of hunger (don't want Crumbcake to go crazy, gotta keep him happy). Crumbcake hates ounces of anything as a general rule, but I have learned by logging my food how crucial it is to have smaller snacks like olives and a slice of cheese.

Well, so glad I get to eat today, but also glad I made it this time through the entire fast (well, a couple hours to go). Hope you all have a great week and work your program to the MAX. It's hard to lose weight and eat healthy, but I feel better and better each week. Have a great day!

I guess we can look at the logging and planning as part entertainment - it also seems to help stretch my food budget if I am only eating what I want and not out of boredom or lack of awareness.

@Marshakanay, Crumbcake says "hi to TriXxy MiXxy" and wonders if she is having more success getting her own way that he is lol!

You're doing great! I never thought to pre plan my meals by looking into the food log prior to eating, hmm I think you're on to something good! I'll have to give that a try as it seems logical to keep a perfect macro balance. Way to go on the walking! Those 5 mile walks whether it be in segments or one go really pays off not just for the physical part but the mind as well. Best to you and your health.

Thanks for posting this - I'm a keto newbie and am feeling a little overwhelmed and under-prepared. Not quitting though - i can figure this out. I'm going to start with trying to figure out how you pre-choose food - assuming it's in the food log ?

@Um_autaviah, yes, I kinda know the basic things I eat and start meal plans with that. For instance, I always eat some kind of eggs either cooked with butter, or hard boiled with mayo. I keep it pretty simple. Thank you!

@Thenester, when I started keto, I just focused on meat, cheese, and eggs for two weeks and ate as much as I wanted without tracking. It gets me into ketosis, then I move to stage 2 and get the macros. You got this! Good luck!

As a Christian I would go on 3 day fasts and as U say the third day is the roughest however after the third day the hunger feeling almost disappears and your brain shifts and u think more clearly. Maybe cause it doesn’t have to digest food. I’ve done 10 day fasts also and was not hungry after the 3rd day. I never fasted coffee and due to outside construction work here in Fla I would drink some juice in the afternoon. The Atkins Medical Diet is the same way due to low carb intake. U real hongry the third day.
