Steven Anthony's Journal, 03 Jun 18

Day 48 of my 90-day program was very peaceful. I did not walk because the park is full for "Show Low Days" and the hikes around here are closed due to stage-3 fire restrictions. The advantage, I didn't have to plan, prep, cook, eat, or clean. Just relax and I did. Lots of rest. Today, I am going to prep food for the coming week. I am a bit weak starting my 3rd fast day but everything is going well. I just have to make it until tonight with a little determination.

Well, what is one thing I have learned: It's okay to be hungry. I used to think if I was hungry, it was something I had to jump up and take care of. Dr. Fung taught me that if I am overweight, I have enough calories to burn for normal body and mind processes. Giving myself permission to be hungry has changed something in my thinking. I now feel like I can choose not to eat sometimes.

Have a great day everyone.

You my friend are 'strong' :) I feel discomfort and break down and eat a box of girl Scout cookies Haha. I will just admire your strength and perseverance. You have had a 15 pound loss since April 1st! Stay the course!

Exactly right. The most important thing I learned from doing a Squat Every Day program for 30 days was that "how you feel is a lie." More than once I forced myself to get under the bar - sore, tired, hungry, and angry - and just start working. After a few light sets things would start loosening, knees would stop hurting, and lo and behold 20 minutes later I would lift a personal best. The conventional "wisdom" of "listening to your body" is grossly overrated IMHO. One's body's input is like one's Doctor's advice, informed expert opinion to be duly considered in your decision making, not gospel truth to be blindly followed.

@jimmiepop - Damn thanks for the pep talk! I wasn't going to work out (feeling too tired) but now I'm gonna put my weight belt on and get it done...

@Adefwebserver, thanks for the compliment! I am really not that strong, but I do think that I am getting a "personal best" as Jimmiepop said about his squats. I still feel the intense discomfort, but am learning to "lift" it a little more each week. Hoping it will last and be a permanent part of my life.

@Jimmiepop, never thought about a squat every day program. Sounds good, I think I will try a version of it. Cool!

@Steven For the record, I am not advocating Squat Every Day, especially not on a cut. Wretched experience. I basically let myself get suckered into it by one of the young guys in my gym. If you want to look into it, PM me and I can send you a pdf of the definitive ebook on the subject and some other useful resources.

What is “Show Low Day”?

Make sure you drink enough. I've been finding out that some of the "hunger" signals I've had were actually thirst signals.

@Jimmiepop, no prob, I was thinking about "Situps everyday" or something...

@Pyrate9, our town is named Show Low, so it's a celebration at the park.

@Cjodyssey, yes, I agree, Sometimes if I drink a bunch of water, I lose my appetite. Good suggestion.

Show Low is a great town, I visited there several times to go skiing at Sunrise. You are so lucky to live there!

@Gz9ziz, thank you, it's a great area, love the "Baldy Trail" up by Sunrise, great hike!
