I am still working this out too. I think one of my friends has a good plan, which is she eats only certain things in combination each day, like yogurt and fruit for breakfast, egg and cheese on a salad for lunch, then she only has to count whatever she eats for dinner. I am too unpredictable to do that yet though.

You start learning and memorizing.. you'll find yourself knowing how much of a certain thing is to much and how much you can eat to stay in your calorie limit.. i only have a hard time while eating out.

a diary like fatsecret is a learning tool. this week I've optimized my food intake 1150 cal (10% lower than recommended bc of measurement errors) macros at Carbs 41% 33% fat 26% protein -- my particular custom recommendation by keto buddy targets. it's paid off this month as 4 weeks lost 7.3 lbs. couldn't be happier!!

Ches, do you have a food scale or a set of measuring cups? 💁🏻♀️ It sounds like your busy and don’t have time to log, and yet might be having a hard time with the portion control eye training if you aren’t happy with your results? 🤷🏻♀️ Just HOW big is 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes? Answer: the size of a baseball or so. 3 oz of meat, 2” x 3” x 1/2 “ deck of playing cards. 🙆🏻♀️Or are you spacing out what you might have already eaten? If that’s the case you need to note down SOMETHING somewhere to remind yourself not to just absently eat more. 🙆🏻♀️You got it Ches! You are determined and disciplined!

Well sweetie I feel that as a learning experience we need to learn to be ok with it especially if its going to be our life style.. I can do that increase with dinning on ham because of my sensitivities to sodium...maybe water will flush that away ..your a huge mentor here and its good to show and inform people its ok to have an increase...;)

If I didn't log, I know I would gain a lot. I think it's worth taking the trouble to do it. I find it's quicker on the laptop though.

Thanks maxie, smp, clay, john10, tess, SKINNY_SKINNY, Jen, abba and Bike Beast Master. This is all a part of my journey and can't change the past. I will either live a life by default or live a life by design. I choose the latter.

I hate logging too, but if I don't, those calories sneak up on me and spoil everything. Good luck with your journey, Ches.

Thanks Doobrie & Max. Max, if I walked the walk more than I talk the talk, I would have been there (smart) a long time ago.

The only way I can not fall of track when I'm not logging, is to stick to a very routine menu - i.e. have the same foods and proportions that I know are on my calorie point. Maybe pre-plan a couple of menus for non-track days in advance?
