Ashley, basically I'm counting nutrients instead of calories. I use the FS app to set a target, a limit, for each of the nutrients (cholesterol, sodium, etc.). I can share with you what my targets are, if you'd like, but they're what a person should have daily according to the American Heart Association and other websites I found. I then eat whatever I want everyday, until I can't find something that doesn't put me over the limit on one or more of the nutrients. I also quit all artificial sweeteners, which was a biggie for me since diet soda was pretty much the only thing I used to drink. I also use the Google Fit app to track my activity, which automatically syncs with FS. My diet is not for everyone, because I'm only averaging around 1100 calories per day, but since the beginning of this year I've lost 54 pounds! I was also able to reverse my pre-diabetes, and was able to stop taking two medications I was on for blood pressure and cholesterol. I hope this helps!
