A year or more ago I Smashed Fat for detox and was shocked when I got on the scale after a week and had dropped 8 pounds. And that was with cheating! I drank a glass or two of wine and even had (gasp!) coffee now and then. Because I was such a caffeine addict, I replaced the coffee with black tea in the morning during detox. The absolute hardest part was giving up diet Pepsi. Ever since I saw Alex gulping down diet Pepsi in the movie Flashdance (the power of advertising) I started drinking this delightful chemically addicting beverage. I even walked around wearing sweat shirts hanging off of my shoulders, tight jeans and of course ridiculously high heels, while drinking my diet Pepsi. Sigh. So, so long ago. Anyway, giving up diet Pepsi was hard during detox. After detox, I actually got sick. I had fever, chills, perhaps a mild case of the flu. So, never smashed again. I admit that during detox I was so pleased with my changed eating habits! I cooked up dinners trying various vegetarian recipes from chili to fat smash approved pumpkin pie. I even bought organic apples! For me, that's progress. I mean lets face it, anyone who can down diet Pepsi like it's the nectar of the gods, isn't going to be too terrible concerned about about a few chemicals sprayed on her produce. By the way, my pumpkin recipe is the bomb. My friends and family just looooove. At least they say they do. Oh I tried to get back on SOME kind of diet. I tried but the commitment was just not there. Since the initial Fat Smash diet, I have tried numerous other diets. I even ordered Nutrisystem. When the shoebox sized package that contained 6 weeks worth of meals came to the door I was a little concerned. (Okay, it was bigger than a shoebox, but still quite small considering it was to provide 6 weeks worth of breakfasts lunches, and dinners.) Oh and the taste. Horrible. I just couldn't do it after a couple of weeks. By week two, the sight of those pre-packaged sawdust flavored meals made me want to gag. Weight Watchers. Let's just say obsessing over every point I consumed made me ravenous. By the time 3 p.m. came rolling along I was usually down to only 3 or 4 points and in a panic about how I was probably going to have to spend the rest of the day feeling miserable while the inside lining of my stomach ate itself. I even read Bethany Frankel's book, Naturally Thin. It's an excellent book, if you are anorexic. Just kidding. It is actually interesting go to inside of the mind of a skinny person and learn how they toy with food. One tip is "sharing food" by eating off of other peoples plates (For example, only two bites of steak and then she is satisfied, so she steals the food off of her dates plate.) Sorry, that's a good way to get a fork jabbed into your hand in my family. All kidding aside, I do think it's worth reading. There's a lot of common sense intertwined in pages of that book.
So, I'm baaaaaack. Back to smashing the fat. Day 1. Got to get ready for work.

Losing 0.2 kg a Week

I'm proud of myself. I stuck to the plan yesterday and even did the 40 minutes of cardio AFTER working a 12-hour shift (which does not include the 45 minute drive back and forth to work!!) On top of that I had the extra issue of painful menstrual cramps throughout the day. I wanted to prove to myself that I can do this and I was not going to let excuses get in the way. Today starts day 2 and although the list of food looks a little sparse, I am going to be positive.

After trying and trying to lose weight, I have decided to embark on the 4 day diet program. I just got the book and plan on starting in the morning. In the past 4 to 5 months, I have tried Nutri-system and Weight Watchers. Did not lose any weight because I kept cheating on both programs. Since journaling is highly recommended in the book, I decided to do it here. I am really nervous but hopeful at the same time. I will make sure to journal tomorrow on how day one went on this diet. I actually work a 12-hour shift so hopefully that will keep me busy and not to focused on the fact that I'll probably be starving!
