Sandy701's Journal, 29 Oct 11

I'm a wimp. A cold front came through and dropped us into the 50's with a LOT of wind. Now I know a lot of you hearty folks will scoff at the words "cold front" and "50's" being used in the same sentence, but it feels cold to me. No way was I going to walk the dogs this AM, even though they pleaded with me to do otherwise. DH relented and took them, after bundling up himself, including ear protection!

I didn't fail on the exercise front, however, going on the Stairmaster for 30 minutes. I watch old episodes of "24" while I climb, but the TV unit that plays the DVD is not fully functional. The sound only goes up so high, even though I've maxxed out the meter at 64 or some such high number. It can make it hard to hear the dialogue above the noise of the SM and the fan I have blowing on me. Still a great program to watch, but I just wish I had more volume!

DH made the pancakes today (yay!) and after a shower, I'll be off to the Christmas bazaar at church. It was really good last year, so I'm hoping to find some nice gifts. It IS hard to detour the bake sale part of the bazaar, but after pancakes, I should be just fine.

We're waiting for the wind to die down to put up our Halloween inflatable. It will only be for a few days now, but at least he'll be up this year. He's one BIG, but cute, Frankenstein.....we call him Frankie! LOL!!

STAIRMASTER NOTES: 30-min, level 2, interval; straight-arm support needed midway in program on hills to reduce HR; HR in the mid- to upper 150's from minutes 15-4 left; 140's at cool-down; 120's at end; 90-100 w/in 1 minute of end. Felt strong (no walking previous day).

:) We're hunkering down for a pretty decent SNOW storm which is even a bit ridiculous for October in New Hampshire! I'd take your 50s any day. But... I hear you. Anytime it's colder than it's "supposed" to be it makes me miserable.

Sandy, we have gotten pretty spoiled with our mild fall here and when the temps took a sudden turn downward, I felt it, and it seems that since I lost this weight, I get cold much easier. I was freezing last night during the game....my hands were cold, my nose was cold, my toes were cold...and we were inside with the oven on! lol Have fun at your bazaar and great job on the stairmaster! Have a great weekend!

Brrr, you must have been feeling the cold, I didn't know what it would take to keep you from walking, a windy 50 can be miserable I know. This time of year, for us, that is pretty normal. We have been having good hard frosts the last couple evenings, glad I am parking in the garage, as I just hate scraping windows! At least we are not getting snow, (that is yet for me!), there are those who are really going to get overwhelmed with snow, especially for this time of year...Yikes! Buffy & I were working with the dogs to give you a break, weren't we Buffy! I hope hubby stayed warm, I am pretty sure the dogs would enjoy the cooler temps though! Good luck handling your Frankie!

So, how is the Maple Grove pancake mix? I have not tried pancakes yet...

I'm not laughing - 50 degrees with wind is not comfortable. I think the dogs listen to GG better than they do me.

Heidi, I was watching Weather Channel and they've got their main guys up in PA and CT tonight and I have to say the snow looks beautiful! Of course, BEING in it and having to contend with its problems is a whole 'nother issue! Keeping my fingers crossed you won't get the power outages that are plaguing other areas. Stay warm!

I heard you last night Stef, so I didn't even have to check to see who won the World Series. Have a great rest of the weekend.

GiGi & Notfast....the bazaar was great. I managed to find some really nice gifts but the last item I wanted had already sold by the time I returned! I always go everywhere first, taking it all in and then go back around to get the items I like. There was the cutest Advent calendar I've ever seen that I'm sending to my sister for her birthday in the next couple weeks. I almost bought one for myself.

F8thful1..I really like Maple Grove Farms Sugar Free Pancake and Waffle mix. I've been having it nearly every Saturday morning for months now. The fiber that's in it is true fiber, not sugar alcohols, although the syrup DOES have the SAs. The only downside is that with all that fiber comes a higher total carb amount (net is reasonable IMO). While I watch my net carbs, I'm trying to keep my total carbs below 50; 40 would be better. Having the pancakes makes it more difficult to balance out the total carbs for the rest of the day. A lot of times, I'll go over the 50 total carbs, but I try to adjust my foods to keep it close.

Buffy, my Collie guy would listen to ANYBODY - LOL! He's Mr. Congeniality with people. Now my Lab gal? That's a WHOLE different matter. Hope you had a successful shopping trip. Get everything unpacked and put away before your DH gets home - LOL!

GG...doggies LOVE the cooler weather and the wind doesn't bother them in the least. Last winter, I continued walking when it was colder than this, but for today, with that wind, well.... Unfortunately, the winds haven't come down, so Frankie may not get put up until tomorrow which means he'll have a very short season this year. Wonder if the neighbors would notice if he stayed up until Christmas - LOL!!
