meganwatson's Journal, 15 Oct 15

First journal entry... I have started warming up to Atkins as next week my husband and I will begin Induction. My thoughts are that we needed a week to prepare and wean ourselves off of some of our worst food habits. This is what this week has looked like for us:

I have done well for the last four days, sticking strictly to the allowed foods list with only a couple of exceptions. I have had to allow myself a tablespoon of peanut butter on just a couple of occasions to ward off cravings and hold me off until the next meal. We also thought we would have a milk shake last night from Sonic as sort of a farewell to a treat that we love. Well after 4 days of no carbs or sugar, I couldn't even finish half of a small shake. It was just too rich. My husband finished his but felt terrible afterward. Guess our sweet tooth is leaving us already.

We are learning what to eat when we have to eat out. A local Japanese restaurant was great with just meat and sauteed vegetables, hold the rice. DH thought he could get grilled chicken at one drive through place but they didn't carry it -- lesson learned to be better prepared. I'm learning what salads to order from where and a delicious shrimp salad salad has been lunch for me for the last couple of day (only 4 net carbs!). This morning I had a low carb, americano latte with sugar free vanilla and heavy cream from Starbucks that was as good as any alternative.

I'm still learning tips and tricks thanks to the Atkins site and all of the various forums but I think this may be our secret to success. I have lost 3 pounds in 4 days and I can't wait to see the loss after we complete Induction. The best news is that I have not had a migraine (so far) all week and I'm used to combating one at least every couple of days.

Good luck to you both! It's SO much easier when hubby is on same WOE. Your peanut butter comment is something I do almost daily...I just can't help myself! Look for natural peanut butter; ingredients should be peanuts and maybe salt. That's it. No oils, sugars or ingredients you have to look up. Here's to happy, healthy eating!

that's wonderful that your dh is joining you in this journey! this is a great site for encouragement. log your food diligently, it will help. lots of knowledgeable people here, too, so if you have questions just ask. i love love nuts and nut butters too but stick with almond or sunflower for lower carb. my favorite is the TJ sunflower nut butter, yum!! good luck on your journey!

It sounds like a wonderful way to start. And already weight loss. I am going to start Atkins soon also. But my hubby won't diet with me. He doesn't really need it. I am jealous of that (j/k) - I am happy for you and your DH. Good luck to all of us.
