Yesterday I ran my first 5K in forever, probably last did something like that when I was 25 years old. My time was around 37 minutes 20 seconds. Not breaking any records with it, I'm just happy I was able to finish standing up! If I'm able I'll do it again next week and see if I can better the time. A word of encouragement to anyone struggling with exercise or physical activity: Just do what you can and as time goes on do more as you are able. 20 months ago I was struggling to walk after injuries from a fall and I have 5 stents in my coronary arteries. I never thought I'd be able to do stuff like this again and am so thankful that I can.
Friday and a gorgeous day here, last night was great sleeping with the windows open and cool air coming in. I'll take another one of those tonight. Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday!

Thanks friends. CatHerder, I never really thought of entering a race until recently. It is something I may do, not really for competition but there are plenty of runs/events around that benefit different causes.

I feel entering a race is a good way to push yourself. You get the adrenaline rush and can really push. It's a blast as you are only competing against yourself.

Congrats. Not sure from your post if yours was a personal run or an organized run. However since others have mentioned actual organized runs (I think they are too friendly to be called races), I thought I would chime in. I am a HUGE fan of doing organized 5k fun runs. They are for a good cause, they give you a target date and if you have to pay you are less likely to back out. Also everyone is VERY friendly and encouraging to people of all athletic abilities.

Thanks everyone. It wasn't an organized run, I just decided when I went out to workout at lunch I was going to run 5K so it was just me running by myself. Up to that point I'd done much shorter runs or sprints. Yes, I can definitely see that doing an organized or competitive run with others would make me push harder
