Pizza - it doesn't have to be a "forbidden" food. Glen posted a great option for it a day or so ago, a chicken crust pizza. Here's another option and this was my dinner last night: A thin crust pizza with ground chicken breast, bacon, sauce, 2% mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, onion, red pepper, tomato, and spinach. The crust is a Mission carb balance burrito size wrap which has 6 net carbs. Baked at 450 degrees on a pre-heated pizza stone for 10 to 12 minutes gives it a crispy crust. Nutrition for the whole thing, a 10 inch pizza, is: 636 calories | 27g fat | 46g carb | 29g fiber | 53g protien. That's 17 net carbs, leave off the veggies and just do cheese/meat and you get 10 net carbs for the entire pizza, eat just part of it and you have even less. That could work with just about any food plan. Check out yesterday's dinner in my food journal for quantities used of ingredients. I ate the whole pizza for dinner at 5:30pm and I'll be good until lunch today, very filling. Here's a pic: [/img]

Wow - great numbers for that pizza. And I agree, i don't think it should be forbidden food. I don't think anything should be forbidden, diets should not be punitive. But, all food should be moderated. Balanced. And sometimes skipped. Thanks for the recipe idea. Will try. Sounds great.

Jim I use the mission low carb wraps and do it similarly. But sometimes I cheat when I am in a hurry and use the foreman grill toast the wrap until crispy which takes about 3 or so mins. then add sauce and toppings but do not lower the grill top onto the cheese just let it hover over and that takes like a min or so.

JMB, I have a veggie pizza with a thin whole grain crust cooked on the grill in my plans for this weekend. It's an experiment for me as I've never grilled one.

Jeri let me know how the grilled pizza works out. I haven't done that yet but would like to. I've got a large metal grid with a handle I use to grill salmon, I believe that would do a good job with a pizza as well. Kelly the foreman grill is a good idea. Those wraps work for a lot of things, we've been enjoying fresh blt's with them a lot.

JMB, I have a pizza pan with little holes that I've cooked veggies on on the grill and also another grill topper for fish, so I think I'll try the pizza one. Will let you know how it works.

That sounds better than the cauliflower crust that I made. I can't get past the cauliflower taste no matter what I make. I take that back, I like tha mashed potatoes. otherwise, yuk!

Here is the recipe I used for chicken crust pizza. (Taken from https://www.bariatriceating.com/2015/06/chicken-crust-pizza-margarita-nocarbpizza/)
Preheat oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper or foil sprayed with non stick vegetable cooking spray.
In a medium bowl combine the ground chicken with ¼ cup parmesan, ¼ cup mozzarella, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper, ½ teaspoon garlic powder and ½ teaspoon oregano.
Mound the chicken mixture onto the parchment and pat into flat rectangle or disc. Cover with plastic wrap and evenly press or roll the chicken into a 7x10" rectangle or round. I use a rolling pin! Remove the plastic wrap and roast until golden, 12 to 15 minutes. (I did not follow the rest of the recipe, I used low carb sauce from a jar and added my own toppings)
Then top with your own ingredients and bake again for 6-10 minutes
I cheated and bought ground chicken to make it easier and my whole family loved it!
