Whew. Guests gone. All is quiet again. It was tougher than I imagined. My ex, his son and DIL, and their 3.75 yo autistic son. The erratic behaviour and vocalisations of the son would set off my dogs who were sequestered in an air conditioned part of the house. They were going ballistic. Given my dogs are to varying degrees "screw ups" they don't tolerate change well. One's a biter abused terribly as a pup to adulthood, one's a compulsive barker born in a household where the man had brain cancer whose behaviour was erratic, and the third is a puppy mill survivor who reacts to whatever the other two are doing. All three were once my foster dogs who I adopted at various times. Special, unique and hard to place in a forever home. Love them all to bits as we are quite the happy pack when it's just us. Our routine is so predictable and with guests it got a bit kaiboshed. This morning the dogs are pooched and napping.

I cannot imagine how tough it is for the childs parents having now seen first hand how difficult it is to manage a child who lives in his own reality. Constant monitoring, "no" is meaningless, no response whatseover to his name, doesn't look at you, more like looks through you, the overstimulation of being in a new environment. I for one don't think I could do it. Then again, were it my child in all likelihood I would be just fine. I believe he enjoyed himself here though. He spent part of one day with his Grandpa and parents driving from Port Colbourne to Port Weller along the Welland canal stopping to look at the big ships going through the locks from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. He is fascinated by big machines, and between the lock lifts and ships he was pretty engaged. Many parkettes and playgrounds along the way. He spent part of another day at Safari Niagara. Very child friendly place with lots to do and see and quiet spaces to retreat to when overstimulated. All in all a good visit I think.

Had a bit of a binge, still observed CICO, just had to swap out other foods for it. Cherries, in season and oh so yum. In many respects I've come a long way. Cherries as a binge instead of chips or chocolate, cookies or Cheetos. Interesting how the palate changes when one is eating clean.

Over and out.
