Decided to try and make a point to my Grandma since shes trying to be more frugal. Hers on the left and mine on the right to compare. Even I was surprised by the volume I was able to buy for the same money. Healthy food doeasnt have to break the bank.

For those who like precision the left weighs 440g and the right 3200g. I estimate at least 5x edible mass of fruit on the right. Yes, I know the right is a lot of fruit and I wouldn't buy this much for just me. I won't let it go bad. We have a nice neighbor who will likely get half the melon and I eat fruit/veg with every meal. Also I know some people are new to cutting fruits and veg. Epicurious on YouTube has some really fun videos that are funny and have tutorials. https://youtu.be/CTMRg4Zc5gA This is their mango video.

I love this post! I think it’s cheaper to eat healthy than junk if you buy what’s in season too. Thanks for spreading the awareness!

Shake, absolutely! I usually get apples and bananas for myself and I probably would have spend $3 on those. Since this was specific for my grandma she really wanted melon. My grandpa is diabetic and we've been working on his blood sugar levels. Apples and bananas are the worst for diabetics because of high sugar content. I looked up a list of lower sugar fruits for them and it included melons, berries, and some citrus. All high moisture content summer fruits unfortunately. So I tried to make a comparison that fit her needs but if I were going for absolute cheapest by volume in season would have saved even more money.

I was going to ask if she had trouble cutting things. Frozen berries and mangoes are still less than deli prepped and might help.

Crystal she said, "you little shit, you." Which I get often whenever I'm being a smart ass 😂 she's eating the over priced fruit first but she gets the point. She also bought that thing JUST for the melon... Why? I don't know... I asked if they had whole melons and I'd cut it up but she said they didn't. She often makes comments about how my mom and I are so frugal and she doesn't know how to do that so I just point out things to her sometimes. Like we just waited a week to buy butter because the shelf price not on sale was $6 a pound. We didn't go without butter we just ran low and they were 2/$6 today.

Katsolo she very well might because melons are hard but what am I doing here if not to chop the melons when it needs doing? I'm trying to get her into the frozen berries at least for her shakes but no go so far. She has some ideas that are very set... Like certain brands and frozen or canned things being bad. She'll eat frozen vegetables but not fruit. I bought a kringle the other day and after she had some I asked how it was. She goes "well it's not like the kringle from X brand kringle." It was literally x brand kringle... She just thought it didn't taste as good because I bought it at ALDI. I love her but sometimes she does drive me mad.
